Show us your G&L

G&L JB Tribute, not a mark on it. This was one of the series that came with the wrong neck, and G&L sent me the right neck, no charge. There's a thread somewhere in which I told the story. It's a sweet bass to play.

I bought one of those when it was a Stupid Deal, only to discover it couldn't be intonated, so I returned it. It's nice G&L sent you the right neck. I heard for a while they were just sending longer intonation screws. That idea led to some other issues, but it was an improvement over having intonation off all the time! I love that color...subtly beautiful.

I bought it in a pawn shop in mint condition - probably because the neck wouldn't intonate. I was just about ready to move the bridge when I thought... "Wait, I wonder if others had this problem?"

After a bit of Googling I found the wrong necks had been installed on one series. I called G&L support and their guy knew the problem immediately. He asked me to take a photo to confirm, then sent me the neck, no charge. It was easy to install, just mount the tuners, string guide and body.

Late 82/Early 83 L-2000E here. Mine came pre-battered, and currently the neck is so beat and in need of work that it's wearing a Tribute Kiloton neck as a stopgap. The original preamp crapped out, so mine's currently wired fully passive with Vol/Vol/Tone, each pickup having a Series/Parallel/Singlecoil switch.

Old picks with the original neck and pre-rewiring.

1981 L-1000 in Natural. Serial B0024XX. Just about to switch back from (Fender) flats to some rounds. Just got a 1980 Tokai Hard puncher so this G&L won’t need to fill in as Motown P-bass anymore.

My lovely G&L L2000 tribute. I haven't owned many basses, but you just cant get better than this one. It's my number one and I hope it keeps on being it for many years. And Imma need some help from my G&L brothers, do you guys know any way to get a pickguard on this one? I've seen different designs around but nobody making them, bit of help please?

This pickguard model was common for MIJ L-2000 basses (not Tribute). I have never found where to find one…

From what I know there where only 5 JB MFD ever built as 3 sold by DCGL and 2 by Southpaw Guitars.
I've got a silver one from DCGL and recently had my tech cut two pickguards for it, one black white black and one tortoise! Keeping the tort one on for now!

I know Sweetwater had at least two available. if I remember right, one was silver and one was tangerine. Of course relying on my memory for anything these days is risky. There were also a couple B-stocks on the G&L Webstore site. Still, less than ten ever made ranks them as extremely rare.

I definitely saw two, maybe three, JB MFDs on the Sweetwater website. at first, I saw only the tangerine one, and I thought, How unfortunate, because I didn't like the color. A week or two later, they got a silver one, and I think I remember one in natural as well, but I'm not sure about that. They definitely were listed as JB MFDs, and looking at them that was easy to see.

Yep, they had at least 2-3 that I saw.
