Turns out the two pickups were a great idea! I also LOVE the wooden cover more than I though I would (wood). The whole bass has this warmth to it that looks so beautiful. The bridge is BRILLIANT. I told Martin I wanted the action higher. A quick turn of a couple of screws in the bridge and it was perfect. Unreal design.

I think I need to take that photo down...hahaha....have had a few people ask me the same question. It's just the new fretless being closer to me when I took it, and then the aweful distortion from my lame old cel phone. Same size, except the fretless is slightly less deep. It really turned out to be a beauty!

Martin just commented the other day that with the flats it plays and sounds like a bass jazz guitar....and it really does. Just perfect.

Ha! It's the semi hollow body with the shorter scale and the flats. It just works for that thing. I really couldn't be happier with it. No hyperbole, just so grateful it's all worked out.

That's so awesome! That intonatable wooden bridge is outstanding looking. This in a 32" scale tuned EADGCF...

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that these were both 33" scale and tuned BEADGC.

I'd love to see you get that instrument! What would your other specifications be?

Ah, my mistake about emjazz's bass.

Beyond what I just said, I'd want Martin's take. I have a great 32" scale sixer from him already, with full and harmonically rich tones. I'm looking for something that's more open sounding with great string separation for chords, almost something thinner sounding, and perhaps a bit scooped in the upper midrange. Something that would work well with acoustic instruments, kind of like a warm acoustic guitar (I have a DB, and an EUB, so not that) even if that means it'd get lost in a rock setting. My other MK basses have that side fully covered.

I have some ideas of course, as my current and past ones that do this best are either piezo equipped or super jazz type...but Martin knows best.

Your build idea sounds fantastic! I'm curious, what strings are you thinking about using for the 32" scale tuned EADGCF?
