That's great! When I first asked Martin if he would be willing to build a headless, he told me that he had received some prior inquiries about such a project. Now I know you are one of those people! :) Martin has been an absolute pleasure to speak with and work with. It's great to know that he is as excited about this as I am. Hopefully, you will find some enjoyment from this particular build...maybe it will allow you to have some insight as to your future Martin Keith headless project.

Here are the basic specifications for my headless build with Martin:


Elfin Headless 5 tuned EADGC
34" scale
Maple neck
Ebony fretboard, flat (no radius)
Side position markers only (Maple)
Alder body with wooden cavity cover
Maple facing
24 frets, EVO gold .043"x.080" fretwire
2x Nordstrand BigRig pickups with wooden covers
Vol/Vol controls, series/single/parallel switch for each pickup
Passive Tone control
Wooden control knobs
Hipshot headless bridge/tailpiece, 19mm spacing
ABM individual string anchors, angled anchor surface
Tried & True Danish Oil finish

That's awesome! I hope that you enjoy this build also. It really is interesting!

Edit: That is, it really is interesting how there is a group of us with similar interests. I thought my original reply sounded a bit snooty...like I was saying that my build is interesting. That said, I do find my build interesting. :D

You should ask him. He mentioned putting a new top on it and it'll be good to go. If I had the money I'd certainly have him do something with it for me. I loved that bass. My priority in the future is getting a headless 6 version. Wish I had more money! Would be pretty amazing of you ended up with it, Mike!

When I ordered this 5-string headless, I was torn between it and a 32" scale 6-string headless tuned EADGCF (You might know this info already.:D). I'm glad I went the route that I did with the 5-string, but I still dream of the 6-string iteration for even more chordal options! It was not an easy decision to make a choice between the two ideas!

Maybe you will be the first to own a 6-string headless Martin Keith instrument...

I had known about that...hahaha!

The headless isn't a necessity at this point, but if travel picks up again for music then I'll be looking to make that happen for sure!
