I took my new acquisition to rehearsal with my cover band and it's CRAZY how well it works. B-string totally filled the room. Especially on some of the poppy dance tunes we do, the bass sound felt like the key redeeming feature lol. Can't wait to take it to play w my regular band this week.

I was slapping on my Mouse this week whilst practising thru my Phil Jones BigHead headphone amp/bass preamp unit. Sounded phenomenal !!!
Slap hasn't sounded great thru my bass amps though. Or maybe it's all the slap practice that I've done on my P bass recently that has carried across.
Does anyone have advice on improving my slap tone on my Mouse at live gigs? Compressor? HPF? EQ, etc?

3 of 4 basses that Rob posted on his website sold... seems like overnight to me! Hard to imagine, but his work just gets better and better.
As his impending retirement gets closer, people are realizing how valuable the instruments may become, and that if they want one, they should not wait.
Yes, I saw that. Check his website almost daily. One day, none for sale, next day four pieces and three of them already sold......wow....but there wasn't a five or an unlined this time, so it's ok for me. But they all looked quite spectacular each in their own way.
Yeah part of me is glad I sprung for the 5 I got a few weeks ago because I reeeeeally need that B in my life. But had I not, I woulda jumped on that black limba Mouse in about a second and gone on to live a sonically alternate, perfectly happy life.
They were up for a few days. Only one was sold last I looked.
Not hard to believe. Just the difference in the first D4 to the second one I got roughly ten years on showed how much better it was - and that original one was no slouch. Build a few thousand and things change

Nah, I doubt few know Rob is closer to the end than the beginning. They are still boutique basses that appeal to some and not to others. I would never buy an instrument as an investment thinking it would guarnteed go up in price.
Ah, but there are plenty who buy things as speculators, and I've known a few to do that with hand crafted items. Similar to the silly people who have purchased cars that they never drive.

At the prices Rob charges, you've got a few shekels lying around if you're doing it on speculation. More power to people if they do it. I know if I had to buy my D4 again today with all the custom work Rob did, I may not be able to afford it.

I lucked out and found 95% of what I would have asked for on TalkBass classifieds. Love that bass.
I don't know, but as of just a few serial numbers ago he was still making MB-2's in 5 strings. (#1549 was a 5.)
Oh my, I didn't know he still had slabs like this. Another guy had a Mouse 30 like this back in the day.
I posted a picture of this last summer, and got some good (and of course, some questionable) advice here on cleaning double stick tape residue off the front. Recently it started draining batteries, an apparent result of some failure in the jack power disconnect circuit. Rob suggested just replacing the who pre as the simplest and best option, so I purchased one from him. When I looked at what he sent vs the existing guts... something didn't add up. I contacted him, sent a pic of the internals and got the following reply:

This is a very early version of the Deep 4 electronics, custom made by Seymour Duncan for me, and combines a preamp and an EQ card, hence all the stuff you see there.

Oh boy, this is one of the nicest custom basses I ever made!!!!! I remember it well now. It's a pau ferro top. One of a kind
