Nice to know what is going on. I have a late '90s MB2 fretless and it is my best bass. Hope to pick another RA in the future.....

Hi all - this is a wild long shot but thought I'd post it anyway. I had a nice MB-2 but sold it years ago (probably 10or so yrs ago) but stupidly sold it as I was playing alot of upright bass and at the time, didn't see the need for the Rob Allen. Now I'm having to rethink everything as due to physical problems with my left hand, I may have to transition out of Upright and back to fretless for my DB-like stuff.
I have an Eminence Electric Upright Bass (4 string removable neck), that I'd consider trading towards a Rob Allen, in case any of you RA owners with multiple basses have thought about getting into upright bass. The Eminence is a great EUB for liver performances - easy to transport, amplifies well without feedback, and plays just like a regular DB.
If anyone has any interest in a partial trade, or has a RA that they'd consider selling, let me know. I'm pretty open to any model - would prefer unlined but not critical. If nothing comes through, I'll sell the Eminence and start the long search for a RA on the market - seems to be hard to find, though!

While RAs aren't exactly ubiquitous, I wouldn't say they were hard to find. There's a bunch for sale on Reverb right now, and I see them listed here on TalkBass fairly regularly.

Thx, there are some around, I'm struggling a bit because in the `10 yrs since I sold mine, prices have more than doubled. (I sold a flawless MB-2 for around $1,400, then the market rate). I get thats what the market will bear. but just thought I'd see if a trade might interest anyone in this club.

Hey David…my Deep 4-30 is up for sale on Reverb. Mint condition.
Can anybody tell me more about the Piezo system installed in the Rob Allen (Mouse 30) ?
RA website says "Fishman piezo" and I read somewhere it's the Fishman Matrix but absolutely nowhere did I found any Fishman under saddle piezo made for bass...
So what Fishman system is installed exactly ? Is there any preamp in the cavity ?

Since no one else has taken a shot at this yet, I’ll share my somewhat limited knowledge and hope that others may chime in.
AFAIK, the standard Mouse uses a Fishman preamp which is incorporated into a jack assembly. Several years ago I was having a battery drain issue. Rob suggested I change out the assmbly, and shipped me a replacement. To my surprise, that was NOTHING like what was in my bass. Further communication with Rob determined that I had a rather special bass with a prototype preamp similar to what is now in the Deep instruments.
Based on that, I believe that the Fishman jack based preamp is standard. I have no knowledge what he uses for the actual Peizo sensors. Send a note to the shop, they have been very helpful in the past.

I played my Mouse at my church for 6 or so years and then switched to a PJ bass for the last 10 years. Recently, I've switched back to the Mouse and it has been going really well. What a great sound! I ran it through a Noble DI with the bass set at 9:00. There is something about that sound the sound engineers love and they had it way up in the mix. I usually go with a bass that the sound guys like so it looks like it will be the Mouse for a while. I also have a Solid 4 and may give it a turn after the holidays.

Good News! I see that a new MB-2 unlined fretless (four string) is for sale on Rob's website! Stunning!
Same here. I have a Rob Allen MB-2 and a Lakland 44-02. I can plug the MB-2 direct into the FOH, get a rich deep sound with plenty of volume. My Lakland can sound pretty good with EQ and some work by the sound guys, but nothing like the MB-2. Basses will come and go in my small collection, but the MB-2 is one I will never part with.
