I'm just wondering if the Mouse 30-5 able to strung in B to G?

It could be, but probably won't sound great. However, I was under the impression that a 30" B-string could never sound good, but then I played a Maruszyzck 30" that had a very useable B string. So, you never know.

I think the bigger problem will be intonation. If Rob sets up the saddle position for a high C, the intonation will be really wonky with a B-E-A-D-G setup.

About 18 or so years ago, Rob mentioned that the LaBella strings were built around the piezo. The B string was designed with 35" scale in mind.

I toyed with the idea of getting one of the first 30-5 basses and probably would have if I didn't already have a killer 4 string. The E string detunes to D surprisingly well, which is a decent compromise compared to a 5 string.

My original D4 had the bottom four of the RS88 set meaning a .135 E. It didn't hurt anything. I had a .135 E on my current one as well. So the Mouse can probably handle it. Whether you should is a different story.

I use a de-tuner on my Mouse with LaBella tapewounds and that works fine. I like having the drop D avialable.

Mine had that. I found it to be something I was not using and I wanted to reduce headstock mass. So I put on a set of Sperzel aluminum tuners and have been enjoying them.

actually the tone of the low b is not my concern but I simply preferred 5 strings neck and I can't really play the E2C tuning on a 5 but a 6 B2C.

anyone got a mouse 30-5 that wanna part with?! Hit me up.

I can't afford a new mouse. Used ones go fast. Is there any other short scale fretless out there under $2K?
(And yes, I've considered defretting a shorty, but I'm not that desperate. Yet

Just modified my MB-2 with a Bartolini preamp. Works great, enhanced tonal control.

Keep in mind that I also used the Bartolini piezo buffer along with the preamp.

I took my MB2 to a rehearsal tonight and the sound tech did not know how to deal with the hot ouput. She finally applied a 20db cut, which seemed obvious to me. The bass was still plenty strong in the mix.

Sorry for the late response, did not see this.

I did the work, there is a lot of room in the cavity.

I kept the volume knob in the original location, the other knobs are bass, mid and treble.

The piezo buffer has gain pots so very easy to dial in how hot you want the signal.

Anybody know the current status of Rob Allen bass production? I know he moved to Italy and that a couple of luthiers were going to carry on. But I notice that not many new basses have shown up on the Rob Allen website lately.

I sent an email to Rand at the RA shop asking about that, and he responded:

"We have been a little slow appearing because I have been giving some buyers a "first refusal" on instruments before I post and they have been just selling before I get them up. We also have been focusing getting the solid 4s back in production so we have been taking a bit of time to focus on that. Things should get a bit back to normal once we get the Solid 4s on up on the site."
