Oh my..........oh MY! Digging the Electric gear and the Bassman 300. How's the sound of the Bassman300+8x10 vs. the Power Unit+8x10?

the Bassman 300 is a great amp, but it's going to be relegated to backup soon, I think. It might deliver just a touch more clean volume (as it has roughly 120 watts more power), but the Electric just works better for me in lots of way. Obviously, the controls are a lot simpler and the Bassman has always been a little "tweaky" for me, with the channel blend, dual-band compressor, graphic eqs, etc. I can get a wide range of tones out of the Electric, and more than that, I can't get a bad tone out of it. I've tried. Nope. Every setting sounds great. Definitely can't say that about the Bassman. Also, despite the wattage difference, the Electric seems to deliver more robust low end. I don't know if it's the output transformers, the simpler wiring, KT-88s versus 6550s, I'm not sure. But it's just a killer, killer amp. I'm getting another one. :) It also LOVES pedals, and so do I.

the only downside is I had to wait sooo long for it....something like 17 months? just ridiculous. apparently I timed it just wrong, though, because Joel over @ EA says he's finally worked throught the backlog of orders. The economy has slowed 'em down a bit. Supposedly the wait time is back down to around 6 months.

My modest but effective rig. Crate BX-200 head. I took off the front wire grill and logo which gave me a great place to velcro to. I took the mounting rings off the 8" speakers in the Hartke 1508 in case anybody owns one and is wondering where all the buzz is coming from. The mounting ring on the 15" is attached to the speaker frame. On the 8's it's just held on with the screws. Take them off and it's a heck of a cab.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the bassman. I love the sound I have it set at right now, but it took me a while to get used to all the controls. I wish they just did away with the graphic EQ and just put on a mid knob. Still, once you get it to the setting you want it at, it's killer. I've never really bothered with blending the channels, one is nice and clean, and the other one is high levels of gain. Same with the compressor, I can't remember if it's on or off right now.....

I'm glad you dig the Electric, I'd love to get my hands on either an Electric or a new Matamp 200. I've heard fantastic things about the Electrics, I have a few buddies (Doomers)
who sit around salivating over them. Love the simplicity of the power unit, although, I would dig a mid knob (which they don't really have on any of their amps). I'm not surprised the volume difference between the Bassman and Electric isn't noticeable, you'd be deaf long before they reached their maxes! But seriously, they say the Master Vol benches up near 215w at full output with the KT88s, so even at 200w, the actual dB difference between the Bassman and Electric would be something like 1.5? (Increase of 3 dB needs double the wattage, and the Bman is only half again the Elec's wattage, so maybe a 1.5 db increase). Plus, the Electric plus 8x10 looks way cooler.
