The EVO4 CAN be brighter....just like lifting a veil. It has a texture in mids not unlike the Mesa Walkabout.
It can be as thick as the older EVO3 (which is brighter than the EVO2 and the original EVO)

I think the Valve Drive is much more useable on this one as well: the additional EQ points make this possible. The highest mid band (labeled 5 khz )increases the grind whereas the high pot (manual says 7 khz) takes off the sizzle.
Yes it seems as loud as the previous EVOs (although I never got to crank any of them).

Nope, its not as insanely whumpy as the old ones...i had an evo3 ABM500 for a few months and got rid because i couldn't get rid of the pillowy sound. The ABM600 evo4 is a whole different beast - full of slam and definition if you want it but also able to do big and soft if you use the scoop.

Its a great amp

Ill never use the scoop... I was hoping the IV would have that deep low extension.. oh well

I'm either getting a new rootmaster 500 or a used abm 500 evo iii. What do you mean when you say a pillowy sound?

Origin hd-1 300 watt head first experience:

Pros:

Fairly loud through my abm-414. had output high and input gain quite high too. There is still a lot of clean volume in the last quarter turn of the input gain knob.

No real overdrive/distortion to speak of. Which is fine by me.
Nice meaty tone. No fizz, ice pick treble or poky-ass mids. A bit old school.


Cons:
No mute switch.
No pre/post button for direct out.
No indication if the direct out is set to pre or post.
No manual- online or in the box.


But- so far I am really enjoying it, and am gigging it tomorrow night in a hellish dive bar. Should be fun!

I have personally never seen one available for purchase. I have seen the 20th anniversary tweed ctm head and 12 inch cabs pop up on reverb or eBay from time to time. However, that particular combo just doesn't seem to be out there as much. However, if you email them, they have always been really good about helping me find different things. I think you are closer to the European market so you probably have a much better chance actually
