Here's mine as it looked over two years ago when I bought it, I've removed the pickup cover as it gets in the way, left the bridge cover on as it looks nice.
Here's one of mine. First bass build for me. Personally, I like the bridge and pickup covers on an old school bass.
My parts PJ, wearing a set of flats, tort guard and bridge cover.
Currently back to rounds with a black guard, but definitely did dig the old school '60s thump and vibe.

On the first page of this thread is a picture of a precision style bridge cover for a 5 string bass. Does anyone know where i can get one of those?

I'm looking for ashtrays for my 74 P bass. I measured the holes either side of the bridge where an ashtray was once mounted: 100mm. Which aftermarket ashtray do I buy?
I do believe that the covers on a '74 would be the same for a 2015. This isn't one area that's likely to change for a 4 - string .... but make that 'in the Fender/Squier lineuo.
I've put the same covers on both many times and if you don't install one of those (stooooo-pid)* heavy mass bridges, then all should be good to go.

I removed a schaller bridge after I bought it and put on my favourite knurled saddle 60's fender bridge. Better tone darket/woody.
I always thought the ashtray name was specific to a Telecaster bridge plate, not the covers, obviously I was wrong. I'm having a custom sub-short scale Tele style bass made with a custom bridge plate (I called it an ashtray to the builder).
I did a Jamerson clone in everything but looks - AV '62RI neck, reverse tuners (hate them! especially the turning ratio), Lindy Fralin 5% overwound pickup, .50-.100 LaBellas, body of unknown origin finished in Nitro Inca Silver. Came out great, you can really nail his tone with this bass once I found the right amount of foam to use.
I don't even really mind the pickup cover, I play Fender/Warmoth P's about 70% of the time and I use the neck-heel and intermediate hand positions a lot anyway. You can play pretty fast on those thick strings with no sustain!
