A few people have asked about bridge covers for 5 string Jazz basses.
Here's how I did it for my Squier Jazz 5...

Buy the Rondo SX jazz bridge and pickup cover set for about $20.

Remove your 5 string bridge and saddles.

Trim about a quarter inch off of each side of the bridge and angle the baseplate to accommodate the ashtray...

Then drill a new hole for the G string intonation screw right next to the D string screw hole. Install the G string saddle by flipping it 180 degrees...

Put the bridge all back together and bolt it back on the bass, restring, tune & intonate, then install the new ashtray and pickup cover...

I have a probably silly question. I'm looking at a MIJ 62RI with ashtray and pickup cover. I was wondering if those make it hard to slap (I'd rather not take them off and on over and over). Also, does anyone know if that bass is even good for slapping?

If that bass came with a maple fingerboard, I'd have one already. The faded sonic blue with mint guard is one of the best combos I've seen on a bass.

I see Fender is now making the more correct flatter low profile pickup cover with more correct sharper angle bends on the newest reissue P Bass.
The previous RI ones were so wrong and so tall and so dome-y.

Just a note for Fender Precision Bass owners: Amazon just reduced Fender 099-2087-000 pickup and bridge cover sets (the new "old" style) to $21.45 from Music123 (no affiliation on my part); they are $29.99 on the Music123 site. Amazon, itself, has them for $21.85, but they're out of stock right now.
