This was my main gig bass for 5 years while in my previous metal band (White Knuckle Trip - Milwaukee, WI). I sadly sold it a couple of years it ago. I regret it, but needed the cash BADLY at the time.
She is a 1978 MusicMan StingRay with original pickup, hardware, pickguard, and electronics (black epoxy preamp...holy grail in the vintage StingRay world & very tasty

). It was originally in natural finish, but the original lacquer was in bad shape; cracked in a spider-web pattern over 80% of the body. I stripped it and refinished it in black ReRanch Nitro.
When it came time for a fret job, I decided to replace the neck with a Status graphite replacement from the UK. I really wanted to stay with the 3+1 headstock since it is an integral part of the StingRay sound. From what I'm told, the Status does not violate the MusicMan patent since it is made overseas. The neck was PERFECT from day one. It never, ever budged.
The only down side to this bass was the weight, a whopping 13lbs. No wonder I have cervical vertebrae problems, thrashing around the stage in that band! The body was heavy ash and the Status neck was no lightweight either, although they did balance each other well.
