SHOW YOUR BLACK BASSES!!!

something about Graphite Status Neck and Stingray conjure up memories of the Stealth Ray that was floating around TB for a while ;)

:smug: We don't talk about "The StealthRay" any more Meevy, I thought we'd agreed on that one :p.

:ninja: OK, here it is again, just for old times' sake:

... and here's what it turned into after I put the standard neck back on the 'Ray and tried to build myself a Super-J :). I have to say, I like the results:

It's a bit less black now, since I added the b/w/b pickguard and changed the strings:

WOW, that bass owned all the other ugly bass shapes i have seen on this thread.
thanks for posting the photos.

Thanks, but there are a lot of other VERY nice basses in this thread too.

I wasn't aware that this was a bass-bashing thread.

Its not and it shouldn't be. :)

this is a Geddy Lee Body, a P type neck that has Ebony stained fretboard. Nordstrand MM4.3 in bridge and Dimarzio J in neck. Rothstein JX5 Passive wiring system (really cool). Hipshot Ultralites and Carbon Fiber pickguard and matching laminated headstock.

Thats awesome!!! :hyper:
Hey man, did you put that together yourself from parts?
If so, I'm putting together a jazz very shortly from parts. How did you do the headstock carbon fiber laminate? Where'd you get the pickguard also.

Some really nice basses in this thread. Anyway, here's my black 'un (plus me playing it).

It's an old Ibanez CT5 - pretty budget, but I've put EMG-J's in it and it's a bit of a monster now. Also, the Guitar Bones pot knobs (3 sixes!) get quite a bit of loving at gigs... :D

Put it together from parts...
The pickguard I got on Ebay from a guy in Hong Kong. Here is is Ebay info ...carbonfibreman ([email protected])
The headstock laminate is also from ebay from 'racingjeff' and the part description is 'Carbon Fiber Sheet Black 11"x 8" @ .015"+Adhesive'
The Neck is $50 Eden from Taiwan which was really a nice finished piece of wood but needed a $85 fret leveling. The fretboard stain is from StewMac. Hipshot lite tuners. Bridge is from Chopper Music and the Control Plate assembly is from Rothstein. This was a pleasant surprise since it has a 5 position rotary switch which allows Neck Only, series, Parallel, out of phase and bridge only selection. The tones I get are extremely varied with the Rothstein and the combination of the Dimarzio J and the Nordstrand MM4.3 pickups.
