Time to raise this thread from the dead.

Say hello to "Mr. Growly - The Noodlemacer", a just 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass:

Poplar body and Maple neck, with a Jatoba fretboard, with just the stock bridge pickup connected (as the neck pickup is faulty), wired directly the output jack socket.

Strung with Elixir Nanoweb roundwound guitar strings of the gauges .080 - .062 - .046 - .036 - .026 strings, and tuned to G# standard tuning, that is as one half step bellow the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in B standard tuning, plus a high E string.

Sounds pretty damn amazing, surprised by how great the stock bridge pickup sounds, rather low output, but really well clear, defined, articulate and growly, with an impressive dynamic range, and by some witchcraft pretty much silent from stock, despite being a single coil pickup (they used shielded wiring at the point this was made, still by Cort in Indonesia at that point, 2019).

And quite low action, without any fret buzz whatsoever, at exactly 2mm (~0.078" = 5/64") low G# string side, at the last fret.

My 1982 Fender Standard Jazz Bass , Fullerton tweed case with all original paperwork/accessories still intact . Had one of these back in ‘83 and foolishly sold it the following year . Took several decades to find another matching one in mint condition as it features white pickups/guard/controls/binding and Pearl blocks which were only made for one year . Opening up the case every time takes me back to being seventeen , the power of nostalgia is strong .
