In order, they are…
  1. …an MIM Fender Blacktop Jazz (cosmetically modded by yours truly)
  2. …a CIJ Fender Aerodyne (export edition)
  3. …and a limited edition, 2008 MIJ Fender-Japan JB-62 "All-Black".

Malak the Mad! ha! thanks for posting: don't know if you noticed but i posted my black jbass (with your pickguard mod!) just to revive the thread (because i love all of these black basses). yours are sweet for sure!

ps: i've posted either pics of the jbass or links to your instructions several times! players and modders really like the pg mod!

Ok, I guess I haven't posted in this black bass thread yet...

My latest parts build. Squier VM '70s neck, SX body, Wilkenson vintage-style tuners, Badass II bridge, Fender Super55 split coil in the neck position and GFS MM humbucker at the bridge (which I like better than the Seymour Duncan that I installed previously). Sounds like a beast and plays like nobody's business!

And I put a '70s style 'TV' logo on the headstock because its MY build and I like the way it looks.

Pretty sweet build, Lo!

Did you have any problems or issues mounting the neck onto the SX body? I ask because I do dig the occasional non-standard configurations that come out of SX, but I can't abide their über-flat fretboards.

Thanks Malak! There were no issues at all with the fit. The Squier neck fit nice and tight, like it was made for the SX body. I did have to re-drill the screw holes, but I expected that.

well, hopefully the thread will continue with more cool black basses! but, just in case it fizzles i'll post a few of my other black bass: it's a cheapie "kapok" (china), new off of ebay last fall. great necks on these things --- i have two --- and super lightweight (probably basswood or paper mache). it came with chrome hardware (didn't like), so i changed out all of the hardware for black and it's strung with black beauties. before the change ups: i had the neck 'narrowed' from a P to a J, so it's a nice feel. i'll get around to some nicer pick ups, but i've played it on plenty of jazz gigs: i especially like to play this when i have to stand up to play --- so lightweight.
