I get the feeling that a lot of you guys buy Customs as a sort of Mid-Life crisis... I mean, some of these basses cost a fair bit, and I doubt that the 20 or so people in here are all virtuosic bassists.

Actually, one of the little known secrets about TB is that 86.4% of the Supporting members with more than 450 posts have recording deals. The other 13.6% have until their 500th post to get a deal or they lose Supporting Member status. Those that have Moderator status also have gear endorsement deals.

Why did you guys go custom? Do you think that you are so skilled that only a custom can serve you, or are you just looking to get something pretty before you get too old to have fun with it?

We're pretty much actively trying to re-invent the electric bass guitar. It's our revenge for the keyboard bass synth craze of the 1980's. Now that we've cured that cancer, we'll all work to perfect our thumping and slapping techniques. If we are successful we may be able to render drummers obsolete. Some of our more advanced members are working on sophisticated chording and arpeggio and tapping techniques. Their goal is to put guitarists out of work.

I agree with John Turner - but I'd spell it ASSumptions. I can afford to play really nice basses without shirking any of my other financial responsibilities and I have worked hard to get there.

I just like nice basses - feel, tone, looks, and uniqueness are important to me and I have a lot of support from my wife. If she has a problem with something, I don't do it.

Maybe you should post what you play and clips of your playing so that we can judge if you deserve the bass you have. I FREELY admit I have better basses than I have skills as a player.

Dan K.

BTW - it was not the question that irritated me but the judgemental condescending attitude behind it!

That girl is cute, but I don't lose too much sleep over young'ins like that. She looks too much like a a student for me to sling too much lust in her direction. Now a woman about Halle Berry's age (38-39) I feel free to fantasize!

By the way, I am seriously considering pulling the trigger on a Skjold fretless this Spring. That is much safer fantasy than these booty swinging babes that Horny Toad is showing! :D

I'm an Equal Opportunity Luster so I don't feel bad.. ;)

But yes, Halle Berry's very lust-worthy as well... :D

On topic: My new Lull should arrive this week...

I have no problem with Alizee looking or being young. I won't hold that against her. ;) Halle Berry's age? Sure. Halle Berry? Nah. At that age I'll take Teri Hatcher. Or Diane Lane. Yum..... :D
