I realized that 3 of my basses have finishes that have either been discontinued or not currently offered in that model.

The 2006 American Standard Fender Precision on the left is in Sunset Orange which has been discontinued.

The 2003 Lakland Skyline 55-01 in the middle has a Cherryburst finish which is not offered on the 01's, only '02's and up. The 55-01 also has the burst finish on the back. Current 55-02's are all red on the back, burst only on the front.

The 1996 MIA Fender 50th Anniversary Jazz Deluxe is finished in a Crimsonburst which is Candy Apple Red on the edges and transparent crimson in the middle (subtle ash grain visible).

If this has been done before, I haven't seen it, so post your pics of your basses that have discontinued or rare finishes. Limited Editions also count.

Sorry for the iPhone pic. I love my 04 sunset orange. When I found out that they'd discontinued both the color and the S-1 switch my first thought was, "Hey! In 20 years this will pay for my kids' college!" I swiftly put that thought out of my head.

anyone ever put a black tort guard on this? I've been thinking about it for s 'n gs.

edit: found a better one, but it looks like I peed my pants. Why can't I just look cool for once? I thought being in bands was supposed to make you cool. Now it just looks like peeing your pants is cool. But i'm not miles davis.

2003 Rickenbacker 4003 in Montezuma Brown. Their color of the year for 2003 (extended into 2004). Mine is an early build. Supposedly only a few hundred made in this color.

2003 Fender Precision in Inca Silver. I dunno if I'd call it rare, but a woefully underrated color that is now discontinued.

1978 Rickenbacker 3001 in Walnut. Once again, maybe not the classic definition of rare, but the finish & the model are long discontinued & not very common.

I like how in the original poster's pic the reflection on the orange one makes it look like it has a "competition" stripe at first glance. Now that would be cool: orange with competition stripes.....

Also gotta agree with the Inca Silver comment; maybe not super-rare, but an under-appreciated color for sure.
