Nice - thanks for sharing! :) Is that J the bass owned by Herbie Flowers? The different colour over original colour as someone pointed out is not common, but they do exist and are visually really cool when distressed. I especially like a solid colour over 3TSB because it teases your eyes knowing what it looks like underneath. I had a '91 FCS Kubicki Ex-Factor that was black over bright red. It had only a couple small chips which disclosed that so I just touched them up at the time. If I had it now I'd want to go full-on relic-ing!

Yeah its been refinished at some point by a previous owner. Used to be natural wood colour. Burst's a little strange but I love quirky stuff like that. I will always win the 'Who has he smallest patch of sunburst?' competition and if that's not the dream I don't know what is.

I'm sorry if this has been asked, but how long have you owned it? This is a piece of art. I don't normally get envious of someone with a Fender, but I'm in love...

(with the bass, sorry)

EDIT: To clarify, I do not hate Fenders. I just don't like many "new" basses, so to speak. I prefer a bass that's been loved. A lot.

I unfortunately don't know it's history as I'm sure it's a good story. The Jazz was from The Fender guitars and amps FB group and the Precision from the Bass Players United FB group. I should start giving photo credits me thinks.

Yes, owned by Herbie Flowers. Original Lake Placid Blue over Fiesta Red. Apparently no clear coat was done so that's why it hasn't turned to an Algae Green like most '60s LPB Fenders.

He also says he bought it in 1959.

From a aesthetic point I just don't like the way the Babicz looks. I'm sure it is functions as intended.

I personally prefer the KSM bridge:

It works great, easy to set up (once you've done it once) and it looks like a bass bridge should (IMHO).

Hey thanks for the kind words! Had it for just over a year now, so not responsible for the bulk of the wear -- but I love a well played in instrument and we just clicked. Here's a few more shots if you're curious
