Nice example! That's the same as my friends L-1000 but his is in less worn shape.

currently in eBay (no affiliation) Sept '66 P ... same month as my '66 P and similarly played. Non-original EMG pu's, nut & bakelite knobs.

Unlike mine, this Sept '66 has the next generation Fender stamped clovers with standard wind. Mine has the orig reverse-wind style. '66 (actually late '65) was the tuner style transition.

Another cool bass on eBay - Joe Lewis's (Conway Twitty's bass-player) '52-'53 P bass. White pg's came later. ('55?) This could be a white pg from the late '60s Tele bass because the early black (bakelite) and white pg's had 1 screw tung-bars, not two like on this one.
Post phenolic saddles ? - not sure when the switchover happened but would have assumed a '52-'53 would still have phenolic saddles.
Looks like a pu wire needs re-connection. Nice chequing.
This is also somewhat confusing as the early P-basses had large string ferrules and this one has smaller ferrules. Not sure what's going on with the D ferrule hole...

I wonder if it's not a 50's neck and mid 50's bridge (steel saddles and the serial number on the plate being roughly '54-'55) and a Tele Bass body (the ferrules on the 50's ones being bigger and with a lip around them that sat flush in the body - those ferrules don't look like ones I've seen for either but the size looks too small for 50's to me - and the color just looks more 60's than early 50's IMO - but I could be wrong on either or both of those points).

I thought both the body finish and scratch plate were reminiscent of the reissue telecaster bass of the late 60's, but I could be mistaken.
This is a 50's neck w/ a late 60's Telecaster body. The string ferrules, pg [and number of screws], thumb rest, & pickup, all indicate 60's Tele bass. The bridge looks to be from the early to mid 50's though.

Yah, those ferrules have no lip - never seen any like that.
That's what I was thinking. If it didn't have player notoriety cred, it would be a "parts bass".
This is mine, late 81 or 82. Picked it up about a year ago. It's an amazing bass, always sounds good and clear in a mix. I love the bass cut feature, it's super useful in the studio. Also I love how hot the pickups are because you can play really light and it's still nice and punchy.
