That's some of the biggest checking I've seen - must be pretty thick.
Kind of like that plasti-kote stuff for tool handles![]()
Hah! Burns of London used poly in the early '60s and sometimes I see similar checking. I always assumed everyone used lacquer back then.
Yes, similar to the Burns, the Meazzis and some of the other Italian makers used an early poly that's very thick. I'm sure it adds to the weight (as that's clearly a contemporary concern here on TB).
Thanks! Brand new, CS Relic. I need to go get some glory...Just saw your NBD post in the Jazz Bass thread from a few weeks ago. So is it new new or new to you? Trying to figure out where we stand on the past glories
either way - that is a looker. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

He stated it was refinished in the (early) '60s and that is was provably 3TSB.
Good on him for being honest - I just jumped to the part you had marked. Glad to know he's not misrepresenting it (I get triggered by the clickbaity hype of Scott's Bass Lessons videos and that's not his fault!)
Now that you mention it, the PG kinda has a Floor of the Barbershop look to it. But, I'd find a way to make do with it.Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Vincent Van Trigt 66 Jazz Bass Aged Olympic White Heavy Relic Not crazy about the pg - I would have got Mark at Spitfire to make one for it.
