1962 jazz bass - body is not original - a Schecter or something from the 80's. it was worn like this when I got it. I love the color and wear, but it's WAY too heavy. I plan on getting a pre-cbs body to throw on it at some point.

Very nice vintage Fender basses - of the 60's J's I've played, they range from surprisingly light to not bad - 70's is where they got really heavy. I have a heavy alder J body from the late 80's and it weighs a ton! The holy grail is a light bass that sounds killer!

It's not much. I have babied my Ibanez SR-480, but one of the "Features" that came with m 480 when bought new from Danny D's back when they were in Webster Texas (Since renamed to Danny D's Guitar Hacienda and moved to League City Texas) was this slight gash in the finish between the pickups. I had originally wanted to learn what the OE finish was and redo this spot. But I have over the years come to embrace the personality it gives my bass.

The imperfections in the SR500's finish don't photograph well, but they are there none the less. It's an old, well used and abused bass. The clear coat is coming off slowly but surely. I haven't taken the time to strip it down and refinish it. I am not sure I ever will. I got the bass dirt cheap, although the cost of parts to get it happy again wasn't (Tuners, pickups, strings, strap buttons, and plenty of solder to make it all work).

Me too. It's understandable why it's become such a quest for that "look" ala distressing - but it's hard to top what players use and time naturally do to a finish and to do it as subtily is really, really difficult.

Not abused but used from my birth year - a great example of subtle but clear player wear & aging. The tug bar was definitely used and the fb wear let's us in on which notes were played a lot. If I only had that kind of scratch...
