Finish colours that have changed over time is a sort of distressing in the broader sense of the word. Time, heat, cold, (nicotine) and exposure all will inevitably change the way a bass (or most musical instruments) look, feel and sound. The 'player wear' is the most obvious, but nature also has a hand in a the 'aging' aspect of natural relic'ing.

What’s the blue look like under the guard? Looks a lot like Fender’s Ocean Teal Metallic.

I don't really know, I had a Frost blue T-20 what had no hint of the greening in this Patriot. I'll have to check it out...

It makes me think of "Night of the Living Dead 2" where they ask an animated torso why they eat brains. "It hurts". "it hurts to be dead?". "I can feel myself rot.". Yiiiikes! Termites of Satan.

The body is Italian, nitro finished; I got it lightly relic'd and did my good part in the last 10 months playing it, mostly weekly rehersals and about 20 gigs
The neck is a Fender replacement Tele-headstock, being poly hasn't really aged much if not for a touch of tint (not joking)

'60s short-scale Norma (MIJ) A lot of people who started playing bass in the '60s when the Japanese short-scales flooded the market slag them now as unplayable junk. But then you see an example like this that was more than well-played and it's clear with the correct set-up, they were very played. My first bass was a rare long-scale Japanese bass and if I would have known how to adjust the string height - I might still own it! (I was 13) I now have a few '60s ss Japanese basses and as long as the neck is straight - they can be set up to be very playable and they sound great! Not junk, not toys, not wall-hangers - real instruments.

Also, before they began doing 'lawsuit' copies of famous brands in the '70s - they offered many unique (and sometimes quirky) designs based on famous guitar brands in the '60s. This Norma is a good example - kinda looks like a Hagstrom from that period, but otherwise is a pretty cool and unique design for the time.

I like this body shape so much more than the modern one. This is my first L2000, and people aren’t kidding when they say it’ll rip your head off! This is a very cool bass.

I wasn't aware the G&L had changed the body shape. Are you sure that modified (finish removed) L2k wasn't re-shaped?

I modified a Fender '51P RI with a G&L L2k set-up (MFD pu's & 9v pre). I personally assess it (as many owners have) as the "Swiss Army knife" of basses. It does anything you want, and does it well. Although I wouldn't include that definition myself - I guess it could "rip your head off"... as one of the many things it does well!
