In Europe (or the USA), you will also often find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_plane_tree referred to as sycamore.

I blame the guys who discovered all these tree breeds, should have given them all crazy names so it'd be easier to tell 'em apart!

US Sycamore is not maple, but European Sycamore is...

Also known as Sycamore Maple.

Being in the UK, I assume Skelf is using the Euro breed.

I got the same story from Martin, because my ABG has flamed "maple" back and sides, but it's really "European Sycamore". I remember the support dude telling me he got the riot act from some wood expert about terminology.

Alan knows his stuff, and my guess is that it does behave very similar to maple, but I'm just a nit-picker. My undergrad degree is in Natural Resources, and I had a number of forestry classes, including dendrology.

Yeah, the blank headstock bugs me, too. I was going to have a decal made, but couldn't come up with anything clever for a design. I'm still working on it... and it still needs a truss rod cover.

I agree with the tribal design; work it into the cut on the top. Or maybe a Celtic knot of some kind.
