Here's mine..I've had it for the past 15 years or so..I was told many years ago that it was made in 1977, but i'm not sure. I don't know the model name either. Stamped on back of headstock: CDN R-2-112

I had one when I started out, it was a Solo 4 with walnut wings body (looked a lot like the one car guy posted). Sadly, I don't have it anymore since it was too heavy and not really what I was looking for. But it sure was beautiful to look at.

I remember playing a Lado Solo II 4 strings fretless back in the early 80's in a music store. I totally fell in love with that instrument. Fantastic sound and playability. Sadly it was definitely out of my price range back then. If someone here have pictures of that model I would like to see it again. I never was able to find it on the Net not even on Lado site.:crying:

Lados these days arent actually that dear. There is a Lado Hawk(i think) for sale locally in the classified, or was recently for 600$ cdn, and there is one in a local shop for around 1100.

Considering the quality they appear to be, i would say that the price is reasonable.

I would buy either of them, but i am trying to cut down on the number of basses I have but don't have time to play.

None of them, but up til last July I lived next door to Sam Roberts.

I dunno if anyone outside Canada even knows who he is, though...

Oh, and about a billion years ago, my da and I were getting set to pull out of the parking lot of a 7-11 or something in North Van, and the bassist for Loverboy pulled up next to us in a *really* ostentatious car.

Back on topic: Man, I hadn't thought of Lados in a long, long time. I dunno what it is, but those early ones give me kind of a nostalic feeling.

I googled Sam Roberts so now I have an idea. IIRC, Scott Smith's body was never recovered.

On behalf of MST (Mystery Science Theater), I'd like to apologize for referring to the citizens of Quebec as " Francophonic bacon-eating bastards". However, a friend of mine in Cornwall ON has informed me that this is an apt description. If you're ever in Virginia Beach, please feel free to come by and thrash me personally.

And I'm still waiting for pics of a headless Lado!

Yeah, he was most likely eaten by sharks. Kind of a crappy way to go, if you ask me...

I played the worst gig of my life in Cornwall once.

'francophonic bacon-eating bastards.' I'm gonna let that one go because I used to watch MST 3000 and still YouTube it every once and a while. Of course, a more apt description of us would be 'Francophonic bacon-eating, beer-swilling, wine-sipping colonised-up-the-wazoo Celine-loving bastards.'

Never been to Virginia beach, but my conjointe (I bellieve the English term for that is 'common-law wife) has. Tell you what: I'f Im ever there, we can thrash it out with amps and basses. More fun that way...

Thanks for the pass and the correction. I was on assignment in Massena NY and would drive into Cornwall / Queen's Highway and on to Montreal...in December. Coldest I've ever been. We were in Old Montreal and the wind comes off the St. Lawrence and gets funneled down the narrow streets.

We get lots of Canadian tourists every summer and, with the CND dollar being stronger, we hope to see more.

Would like to show mine off, but the pics I have are too high res for the forum, and I don't know how to resize them.

Anyhow the time has come to sell my Lado. Thought long and hard about it, but can't justify having so many guitars that don't get played anymore. I bought myself a new jazz for christmas last year.

It's a canadian standard. 4 string, ash and maple body w/oiled finish, ash/maple neck, and a birds eye fretboard. One of a kind, and the actual guitar they used for the catalogue photo that year. I believe it's from about '90 or so. I'm the original owner. Everything is stock except for the emg's i put in about a year after I bought it. Schaller tuners and bridge.

If anyone is interested, PM me or send me an email and I'll send off some pics and more details.

I was a big fan of moist some years ago, their bass player jeff pearce used a lado at some point, at least it said so in their web page. He even answered emails personally for the band's web page, really cool guy, i wrote like five times asking different things and he always answered. I can't really remember what he said about his lado. At the time i got really interested and visited lado's webpage, but never got to buying one, mainly becuase of lack of funds. My interest in them has diminished since, but they're still on my crave list.

There's a very nice Lado that's been hanging in a down town Toronto pawn shop for atleast the last six months.
If I recall correctly, the price on it is around $1200.00.
A good friend of mine has a Lado and man could he play it... my best memory is him playing the bass line in "Frankie Goes to Hollywood's" Two Tribes entirely slap! Even the Frankie guys didn't do that, they used a sequencer!
Very versatile bass, I just never really liked the neck on them!
