They can USE big power if you have it, but its not necessary. It's designed to be used with a couple of different 15's if you want, so there are a few choices. Can you put in a bunch of wattage? Yes. Do you have to? No...its designed to work just as well with classic and vintage tube heads just as it will with modern micros.

They really done need that much power...i mean any good ol tube amp would make them sing and get very loud. The thing about them is is that they can take a hell of alot of power and not breakup like a traditional bass cab!! True the 3015lf is not as sensitive but it more then makes up for itself due to the bottom end can handle and put out. The 3/way design does not cause it to take more power...i mean it dont take much power to make a 6" or a horn to get loud esp at the Frequencies they are putting out!!;)

The reason you see so many guys move to BIG amps with fEARful cabs is because you can. ;) By that, I mean, with a standard 15, it starts breaking up and farting out well before your 300w amp or your 500w amp starts sweating. The fEARful can take an outrageous amount of power before reaching its excursion limits, meaning it remains clean at extremely loud volumes. I found that it was my 500w amp that was 'giving up' while I could still feed the cab more. Did I need to? No. But I can. :D I was using my 2xfEARful cabs with a 500w head at an outdoor/festival show and was told that the FOH had taken me out of the PA because I was both louder and cleaner and lower than the FOH subs were.

That was before I upgraded to a more powerful amp. :atoz:

Of all the "traditional" cab configurations, I've always favored the 215 for its better dispersion characteristics, good sensitivity for tube heads, muscular voicing, and fairly high power handling.

But they've always been heavy and bulky. But not now!: with today's better neo drivers - and 1/2" plywood with superior bracing (I really worked it over for this box!) - it's now practical to make a 215 that's easy to move and can really deal out the punishment. The porting here is at the edge of what the best 15" loads for this purpose are capable of.

The target audience is players who are largely traditionalists who would like that type of sound with less weight. By lack of a dedicated midrange driver or a long-excursion woofer like the 3015LF, such a cab is never going to have the flexibility, clarity or upper-scale performance of a 12/6 or 15/6. But it'll definitely do various "old school" "full-range" things louder and lighter than 99% of what's out there.

It's also designed to make it easy to do traditional framed cloth-grills.

Not much to look at... a gutted Peavey combo and a 200w Crate amp, but it does everything I need it to, and it only cost me $75 (head included). ;)

I believe that this will be a 'builder only' situation. After getting bitten a few times on the initial fEARful run, and now having gone through the process of finding and authorizing a select number of quality builders I think that Greenboy has decided that the best way to proceed is to farm plans out to those guys.

True. Still, this looks to be a killer cab. The interior has been reworked and it's got a new bracing scheme that's supposed to be lighter and more rigorous than otherwise. Its in 12mm and can be used with either Eminence 3015 (non-LF) or the Faital Pro 15PR400.

Basically this one is for the guys who love their 15's and like them loud and vintagy but don't want to carry around a boat anchor. Throw some tiltback wheels on this and your SVT, 400+, and you're ready to go.

Oh, absolutely. I'm no builder by any stretch and I rather buy than build. My comment was really about Greenboy putting a ton of effort into the R&D of the fEARful cabs and releasing the plans for free then getting a bit of a hard time.

As you can see, his model has changed. :) I'm all fer it, even though I know some people don't want him to stop being the Robin Hood of bass gear. I think that the level of dedication he's put into build support, tech support, trouble shooting DIY builds, explaining the hows and whys of the design have been exemplary, and now its time for a more traditional approach that may get closer to him recouping something for his efforts.

Unfortunately, once the cow starts giving the milk for free everyone is looking for milkshakes and ice cream on demand.
