I had put in a pair of Eminence drivers that required ports so there are 4' total of port length in there. I went back to the original neo drivers but left the ports.

I did my first ever mod a couple months ago. Bought this Lakland 44-64 Custom PJ back in October as a B stock direct from Lakland. Decided to swap pickups to Aguilar. I liked the Lakland neopunch P well enough, but the set was very unbalanced. P was too hot and the J didn’t bring much to the party. Huge volume drop with both at full volume.
These Aguilar are extremely well balanced and have a more traditional tone. Dead quiet and now you can actually hear the J blending throughout the range. I think it’s a keeper.

That stinks. Will they send you a new one or are you stuck with it? If you're stuck, you could probably fix it with some epoxy.
I'm awaiting a response from the seller. It's from a brick and mortar store that also sells on Reverb, and they were selling it as new. I should be able to get it exchanged. Otherwise it's MacGyver time.
The seller got back to me, new one is on the way! I asked about returning the bad one and they said keep it.

So, Melbourne's gone back in to a 7 day lockdown and I thought it's the perfect time to drop in the Novak's !

Could not be happier with the result, sound is exactly what I was hoping for.
I did ask if possible for as little treble profile as possible with tone wide open, low fi, woody-wooly 64' vintage sound, and OMG did Mr Novak nail it.
I have a legit 64' L series jazz and the neck puckup sounds very similar, I'm stunned.

These are more recent mods, but since the pandemic is still a on, I think it qualifies.

Wow, what a paint job! Very hot! Did you buy the pickup new? It's my understanding that EMG changed the design of the PHZ recently and now they're Geezers with hidden polepieces.
Yes I bought it new a couple months ago direct from EMG. I haven't tried it side by side against my other LB100 that has Geezer's, but I will say the PHZ sounds awesome.
Was a sweet little 30” 5string PJ I picked up for $200, but then I came across a pair of G&L humbuckers on eBay for about $140
Curious. How/Where did you hear of this change in the pickup design?
If you go read the specs on EMG's website of both, they match up. This was not always the case. I just heard of it a couple months ago. Now does it prove positive that they're the same pickups? No. But I would imagine they'd be a lot closer than not with so many specs matching now. I like black pickups with polepieces so I'm sticking with my Geezers, but the PHZ's do save you $5.
