Ah, ok. I've never actually thought about the fact that it would stop your fingers. It's obvious now. Makes sense. My mistake.They're nothing like thumbrests. Your fingers touch the ramp beneath the strings as you pluck- it creates a stopping point for your fingers a very short distance below the strings. While you do have the option of using one like a thumbrest, that is not its primary function and not what most people do with them.
