I played that bass yesterday - what a player! The ramp is really, really nice.

I am currently working on having a clear ramp with the neck radius included as well as a height adjustment. I will work fast to have the parts patented and available so please bear with me. They will be surprisingly affordable too. I am also working on a system that will allow the user to make his own measurements and then will send a template before the actual ramp is produced. That's how mine were constructed and the final issue I am also working on is a way to attach to the instrument without making it a permanent fixture, because making holes to screw into the body is not good for the acrylic since it may crack or ruin the finished look. I am using some removeable glue dots which almost disappear underneath, but they do allow the ramp to move around a little when you play and you don't want that. So I will continue to post my results here.

Scotch, double stick tape. Strong, but removable.

All custom at the moment, because the width, length, and radius needed for a ramp will vary from bass to bass. BassSlave is working on a quicker way to get these produced as he's mentioned in the thread.

My guitarist (who has also played bass in bands) asked me at a gig the other night what use the ramp has. I asked him, "how many bass players do you know who usually play over the pickup?" He responded with "most". It's a comfort thing, for me. And has enabled me to come up with some different techniques, because you end up using different parts of your fingers to play.

Hope this pic works! I made this out of maple for my Larrivee LB-2. I'm going to finish it in the same sort of color soon...

I prefer the clear acrylic because for aesthetic reasons you do not know its there until you get very close to the instrument and also because the feel is the same as the plastic pickup covers so there is no difference in the feel and this is about as invisible as you can get.

Man, those ramps are cool! Are they radiused? And if so, did you do them yourself, or did you buy them already like that?

I love Jon's work. Bryan, are you close to his shop? I've gotta go down there soon to get a ramp put on my acoustic bass, and to check out a new six string that he just finished. Were you by his shop recently?
