I have not posted pics, not because I’m not a dog owner, but wanted to tell the story of GiGi.
About 16 months ago, I came home from work. At the time I was working from 1 pm to 9 pm. As I got out of my car in my driveway, a very loud, aggressive dog, approached me, preventing me from entering my house. Out of reflex, I pulled my gun and pointed it at the dog. About that time, my wife came out, and said” Don’t shoot her! Somebody dumped her. (This is common in the country) I kept my gun trained on the dog, as I worked my way in the house.
I told my wife that we needed to call the county, because, we could not take a chance on the dog biting one of us, or anyone who visited.
My wife said she had put some food out for the dog, because she was very thin, and had wounds.
We began moving the food closer and closer to our gate, and then left the gate opened, and put food inside. The dog continued to act aggressively, but never bit us. Once she went inside the gate, we closed it and had her inside the fence, the dogs’s entire demeanor changed. We were actually able to pet her through the fence(chain link)
She was wearing a collar, but no tags. She had long deep wounds along her back. Taking a chance, I entered the fence, with a leash, and was able to attach it to her collar. She led with no issues. Here is her first picture. I
The picture doesn’t show it but she had very bad wounds on her back. It soon became evident that she was in heat. We took her to the vet, fearing the worst, but as long as I was there, she behaved wonderfully. I explained her circumstances, to the vet tech who checked us in, but the vet, thought I was the abuser. After explaining the situation again, he calmed down. We had her spayed, and the wounds treated. Her back looked like a full length zipper, when she came home with her cone of shame. We put her in a large kennel, in our house, and she quickly acclimated to indoor living. She never soiled her kennel. Our cat and other dog were very curious about this new addition. We let her out, always on a leash, and she was a quick study, in “sit” “down” etc. surprisingly, all she wanted to do with the other menagerie members, was smell them. She was never aggressive, even when our cat would sneak attack.
Evidently she was badly abused. She still shies away if I have anything in my hand, even as small as a coffee cup. But she loves to sit in our laps and snuggle. She plays with our grandchildren, even the 1 year old, looking her eye to eye, and licking her nose.
I will post more pics later, but GiGi (short for girly girl) I guess, has become an official spoiled dog.
