I can't remember the name of the lakes, but there was an upper and a lower, with a waterfall connecting them. You could ski under the waterfall if the ski boat got close enough. The only problem with the lower lake was water mocassins. One poor dude happened to ski through a group of them. He dropped and the boat circled back to pick him up, thinking he'd fallen. He'd been bitten a large number of times. Fatally. We never went back to that lake.
One of my brothers was born in Temple. The other was born in Killeen. One sister was born in one of those two towns. The other was born in Abilene. I was born in Elk City, OK. Drove through it on the way from Flagstaff to Chicago last summer, on my way to France. Spent the night there. WHAT a dump. OMG, am I lucky I only lived there for 30 days and have no childhood memories of it.
