Tonight we had to say goodbye to Sabrina. She was 16 years old. Her kidneys had finally shut down. She lived a few months longer than her bloodwork said she should have...
She was my first and only small dog (as an adult). When we got her she was terrified of the world, but grew to become a Real Dog with a tremendous zest for life. She went through the world kind of cheerfully oblivious, and I think that served her through her illness - she didn't really notice how sick she was until the end. She was a Good Girl.
It hasn't been an easy start to the year, and losing Pythagoras and Sabrina less than 2 weeks apart. Our vet thought that losing her pal Py might have been the thing that broke her heart and took her down.

Sabrina, may the bacon be plentiful and the cushions soft where you are now. You were and are loved.

Sorry for your loss, saying goodbye to our fur babies is very hard.

Here's a photo of our grandpup Pacha back to doing his therapy dog work. Our daughter in law works at a local elementary school and he spends a couple days a week there. Kids on the autism scale or who need help reading can come in and read to him. It's pretty cool to hear about how these kids do better and Pacha is very happy to go. He is a very mellow dog, our son calls him their "kitty" because he prefers laying around to doing "dog" things.

He just went through a rough month or so where he was in pain and the diagnosis of a canine form of rheumatoid arthritis was reached and he could get treatment. We love to see him up and around, so to speak. You can still see some of the shaved patches of fur on his front legs from his vet visits.

That is very good. Win/Win/Win. Good for the kids, good for the dog and good for the dog owner.
Loki (avatar) was a member of an all Pitbull therapy dog group, we regularly visited two schools with severely physically/mentally handicapped children, old folks homes with hospice care, a stroke victims therapy unit, and a few daycare centers for underprivileged kids (lots of which had Pitties at home).

I sure do miss that old boy.

I truly love this thread, it makes me feel good on a regular basis.
Since Loki has gone, this thread also makes me miss him very much.
I feel dumb sometimes getting a lump in my throat and watery eyes.

Jonathan, I hope you have somebody furry to pet today.
Thank you. We are fortunate to still have Otto, who is very obliging in the being petted department.

Oh yeah, how could I forget big 'ol Otto.
Loki loved playing with giant dogs for some reason, he couldn't hurt them while rough-housing and I think lots of the largest dogs are chill dudes.
He wanted nothing to do with the little snappy ones.
Now that I think of it, most of the biggest men I've known are pretty chill dudes.
