It really varies based on the type of dog and the owner(s). Patti is short-haired and grooms a lot, so she rarely smells and doesn't shed a ton. Plus she doesn't take up a lot of room unless she stretches out. So she's allowed on pretty much all the chairs and the couch, as well as our bed during the day. She sleeps in a crate, though, and she's not allowed on the guest bed.
If we had a bigger or longer-haired dog, we might be a bit more restrictive.

The irony is that as a general rule, the long hair breeds, like my fella (a Shih Tzu) don't shed. The loose hair comes off on the brush/comb.
That dog is going to look great on the maroon leather. He can hang out and look out the window. We would get the love seat to go with the couch and chair. It’s only another $1200.

My Bear passed a few years ago at 19 years, but he was the best friend I've ever had. And he loved this couch too!
That's a good score. Gotta be certain privileges for a dog that old to keep life comfortable.

His privileges were unlimited. Very lucky to have had him that long. Especially considering he was a medium large dog.

Two of my three sleep under the covers. I use a duvet to cover the other half of the bed. Sparky sleeps on the duvet at the foot of the bed. I have a second old duvet that is folded up in thirds on the nightstand on the other side and a chair pushed up against it. One of the other two will wiggle his way into that for the night. The other will either get under the covers on my side or under the half duvet next to me. I have to check before I turn out the bathroom light so I don't accidentally sit on one of my boys.
BTW, my youngest, Peanut, is 9 today! Bon anniversaire mon ami.
