Long ago, I had a standard poodle who had a morning routine with me. I had a water bed (told you it was a long time ago). When he wanted to go for his first early morning walk, he'd stand next to me and rhythmically paw the mattress to get it rocking. I would wake up and squint ever so slightly at him. He would keep that up until I opened my eyes and made eye contact. Then he'd jump up on the mattress and really get it going until I got up. Fond memory!

I own a business and encourage my guys to bring their dogs to work with them. I always have 2-4 dogs in the office. They tend to hang out near my desk because I keep dog treats stashed in the drawer. I am nearing the end of my working career and am very careful about what I say in the office for fear of offending anyone..... Middle of last year I lost my old snuggle buddy. He was a big black all-American mutt and was the best bed snuggler ever. That's the back story....... This morning the lady across the hall brought her big black lab and he is laying in front of my door.... Being reminded of my recently deceased buddy, I stepped over him and his happy tail and proclaim, "I want to take you home and take you to bed"...... The entire office went quiet.... It was then that I realized what I said. I still am redfaced.

On the sober side, I’m very sorry for your loss. My condolences. :(Sounds like he was one good pup. Its very hard to lose one, that’s for sure. Was he the beagle?

On the, hopefully humorous side, I was wondering. Were you looking at the dog or the lady when you made your “declaration”?:roflmao:

Everything is ok at the office now?She knew what you meant?

It was the big black dog in this photo trying to mooch a snack from my baby girl. It was his time. He was almost fourteen..... Yeah, everything is fine. As soon as I realized how my comment sounded I walked the hallway to make darned sure that everyone knew I was speaking to the dog!

And this is the sweet old boy I invited into my bedchambers..... He knows how to open the drawer that I keep the dog treats in. Already licking his chops in anticipation.
