We were told American Pit-mix.
A contractor at my wife's property adopted him...after 2 whole weeks, they decided they couldn't handle him. We had just put Cody down & swore "No more dogs" (too painful).
Well, he is a handful. He does have some of the personality traits of our Casey, the American Pit we had until 12/2017.
He is bad...and he knows it. Spoiled rotten. Already.

I know it's a spoilt dog thread and I'm happy to be a part of it. But little Fear and Loathing seem extraordinarily content with the expectation, widely held in their world, that I know best and what I say goes. Seem very happy not to have to make the hard calls in life. They work for approval and my disappointment cuts deep. Probably because I'm not slow to exploit the playing of favourites to express it. Back in the one-dog-at-a-time days I used to train them hard. Now I don't train at all. Young dog learns all they need from the old dog.

What I do is no reflection on what anyone else does. We each find what works for us. And I'm in no position to judge that.

Congratulations and way to step in and help out in what could have been a bad situation for the pup.

That's wonderful. I miss my ol' hound's howling along to fire, ambulance and police sirens as they sped down the road by the house. However, I don't miss the local coyote pack's howling in the backyard at 2 a.m. Talk about a blood-curdling sound – it's definitely not a "listen to how cute we are" cacophony but more of a "this is merely to let you know that we are hungry, have very sharp teeth, and we outnumber you by a 10:1 ratio" kind of statement. I'm sure they'll be back soon as the weather gets warmer.

It's policy at many shelters to not call their dogs Pit Bulls.
They like to call them American Staffordshire Mix, Amstaff Mix, Staffie Mix, Terrier Mix, Bully Mix, Bulldog Mix, etc, etc.
Insurance companies, apartment leasing agents, neighborhood associations, hotels, and dog boarding places are much happier if no paperwork says Pit Bull.
That generally causes the dog owner and the dog less grief.
The closest dog boarding place to my house will not take my old boy Loki, and we live thirty miles outside of Austin in redneck country.
Some of the silliness I have encountered while having a pair of perfectly behaved Pitbulls with me on leash was funny but not at all fair to those dogs.
We are lucky to live in a city that is very dog friendly and many people here seem to be aware that Pitbulls are just dogs.

That puppy sure looks like nothing but American Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffordshire Terrier.

It'd be fair to say that not all pitties have the owners they deserve, tho. A well lead Pitbull is a wonderful dog. Sadly many of them end up being a prop in a macho fantasy. When such dogs feel the need to set things right for or in their pack, they have some formidable tools to do it with. Other breeds do the same thing but usually not so efficiently.

Humbly suggest it's usually not the dog that's the problem, it's the owner.

I once had to live through 30 minutes (at 3:30am) of a pack of coyotes taking down a javalina. My dogs went out of their minds. No rest for the weary that night.
