Shuttle 9.0?

I keep trying to fix what probably isn't broken, too. My Shuttle 3.0-10T combo (with new 110 extension cab) does all I really need and I keep trying to tell myself I need a Max 12 and Uber 212.[/QUOTE

Hey....I'd love to sell you a new amp. However, our brand equity is much stronger if we develop product with staying power.....long after what is trendy comes and goes.

So, we're perfectly happy if your 6.0/3.0 works for you. We weren't intending to design the "amp of the day".

BTW, as I've stated before, my stereo rig is STILL a GBE1200 and a NeoPak (modded for 500 watts at 2 ohms). My single amp rig is a GBE1200, as heavy as it is, on top of a single 4x10. Oh yeah, I've been known to incorporate an SA200 and Epi UL410 (series I)here and there too. Don't tell Jeff though. ;):hiding:

Sometimes its hard to ask a simple question around here without getting grilled, but overall good feedback-thanks...:smug:
Peace...DAcat

Yes indeed I have the marks to proove it. :D

To run all your cabs I say use a Shuttle Max 12 to run two and for those rare occasions when you really need to hurt someone then just use the GBE or add a Shuttle 9 and link them like was suggested earlier.

Come to think of it I believe we are going to need to convert Bob Bonner from Ampeg to Genz just so he can build a rack unit with eight Shuttle 9.0's and one SM 12.0 powering ten Uber 2x12 Cabs.

:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

OMG

It should be noted that all of the Shuttle models can be linked to provide double the output (into more cabinets) with a single 1/4" cable. The master section controls both power amps and the master volume on the slave amp conrols it's level relative to the master amp. Set both masters to the same level and they are balanced the same.

A pair of 9.0's would give 1800 watts into a 2 ohm load (2 x 4 ohms) with a net weight of <8 lbs.

A pair of ShuttleMax 12.0's would give 2400 watts into 4 x 4 ohm loads with a net weight of about 15 lbs.

Just some food for thought for those who could benefit from a scalable solution with instant backup.

Nice!

There are many a day I look back and think of how good things were in the "good ol days".

There has never been a better time for Bass Amplication!

These little Gizmos are the shiznit.

Id pay to see that rig...if bonner would do that...

Okay, may be a noob question, but with the Shuttle 9.0 and it going to 500W at 8 ohms and 900W at 4 ohms, does this limit the speaker choices one can hook to this? I mean, you put one 4 ohm speaker cab on it, it has to rate to 900W correct...else it could get damaged? If so, there's not many cabs out there that can handle that as most I've seen go only to like 600W or so.

I take it there's no problem putting two 8 ohm 600W speakers? But putting one GB-210T at 8ohms will ask for trouble since that's only rated for 450W?

The amp is not always putting out full wattage, although it can even put out more than that.

Also the wattage rating for cabs is a thermal rating. There's mechanical damage from over-excursion to be considered as well.

Basically, if something bad's going to happen, it will make nasty noises. Judicious use of the volume control should prevent most cabs from getting damaged.

It wouldn't make a ton of sense to buy the 9 if you were going to just run one 4ohm cab. For that, I'd get the Shuttle Max 6. Same 'full voicing', plenty of power to push almost any single 4ohm cab to its volume limits, and much more EQ power (although at the cost of a slightly bigger box).

For a relatively big (or relativley low SPL) 8ohm cab, or two relatively large 8ohm cabs... the Shuttle 9 should smoke.

Of course, as posted above, the 9 with a little user care and caution, could be used with any cab.

Well, wouldn't this go great with GB's 900W 4x10 cab? They seem to be made for each other. :D

+1 In fact, those with power-sucking 8 ohm cabs like the fEarful design & LDS will probably find 500 watts is not enough. 700, 1000 watts, or more will drive more pronounced results. Alex Claber said in one post that he wouldn't be scared of using a 1000-2000W power amp on those models. Greenboy mentions using 700-800 watts into the woofer. RPSands told me the widely-used Emminence 3015LF should handle a continuous signal of 900 watts without damage (and a subsonic filter), with peaks of 1800W. I suspect the most useful application for that range of power would be production of more volume in an outdoor setting where there is no PA reinforcement. If you're running the bass signal through a PA, 375 watts or less should be MORE than enough for stage volume with one 8 ohm cab.

I'm actually pretty excited about the Shuttle 9 for those 15/6.5 8ohm cabs. When I pushed them with my Markbass F500, they sounded pretty darn good (375 watts). I would think with a full 500 watts from the 9 into 8, as you said, it would be loud and full enough for just about anything! Volume probably won't be that much more, but it should open up and give them a fuller, wider, low end.

I have been thinking about this. Since Ive bought my DB212s (600W/8ohms each) ive been looking for something that is more powerful at 8ohms. The LM3 is brilliant, and I wont sell it, and my Orange AD200b obviously kicks out 200 (well a LOT more) dirty tube watts when pushed and sounds HUGE. With the orange, 8 or 4 Ohm doesnt matter, same wattage, so that why I figured id get DB212s instead of DB112s, (I wanted bigger options).

The Shuttle 9.0 might be perfect for putting more power into my DB cabs....500W at 8 ohms is GREAT!

I could also use it with my 2 8 ohm Orange cabs, or my HS410.

The 12.0 may not be small enough to fit in a gig bag, but it is easy to move around with 1 hand.

I gig a 12.0 a lot and it is really light also. Maybe not 4lbs light, but it weighs next to nothing for a dual pre (with tube!) 1200W head.

I would only go with a 9.0 if I needed extreme portability. This is mainly due to the small price difference between the 9.0 and 12.0. If it was $499, I would be all over it.

Maybe I am just a 12.0 snob!:spit::D

A Shuttle Max 9.0 has got to be the way to go. The preamp of the Max with the 500 watts at 8ohms/900 watts at 4ohms. Please make!

Just to seriously clarify here if you don't have a great subsonic filter an open E could destroy a 3015LF at super high wattage. If I said "continuous" I probably meant "RMS" because despite the excursion abilities of the 3015LF it could very well cook the voice coil if you sent a 900w sine wave through it for a while.

Based on my modeling anyway, it takes around 900w to cause the driver to exceed xmax if you use a 4th order high pass @ 32hz or so. There is a lot of wiggle room after that because the Xlim on the 3015LF is quite high.

To exceed Xlim of 17.0mm requires close to 2100 watts.

Assuming winisd can be trusted :)

-------------------------------------------------------------

That said, a 3015LF/6nd410 cab should be at a real 120db or so by the time you are shoving a 500w signal into it. Going up to 1000w only gets you up to 123db.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a shuttle 9.0 with a fEarful as my main rig and be comfortable with it holding up against guitar combos and amplified drums.

To give some paper comparisons, your the 15/6 cabinet is about as sensitive as an average 4x10 cabinet (~100db) and far more sensitive off-axis above like 600-800hz or so where the 4x10 starts to lose its offaxis response.
