Shuttlemax 6.0 and GBE 750

Thanks. This is always good advice, but...I was hoping to get lucky and maybe a few players on the forum have been running a Max 6.0 or 12.0 into just one 8 ohm cab on a regular basis. I see what you're trying do...get me to try one out for myself. :D

I don't have a good feeling of your expectations, playing style and gig volume.

Actually, I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a Max 6.0, thus all the questions. My playing style/tone can be heard on my myspace sites. For a frame of reference, when pairing one DB 115 with my Eden WT-400 (about 230 watts into 8 ohms) I seem to be wanting just a little more for volume and headroom with the two bands I play in. When serious volume is needed I have my Demeter/Crown rig and 4 ohm cabs, but sometimes ya just wanna travel light (lighter). :)

There has been some talk about the Markbass LM II size heads (300/500 watts) not doing particularly well with a single 8 ohm cabinet. What about the Shuttle Max 6.0? When driving a single 8 ohm cab, can it be counted on to sound like a healthy 375 watts? Is anybody running a Max 6.0 like this? :hmm::)

The issue with the LMII into 8ohms is IMO and IME only an issue when slapping or really digging in aggressively. Those hard transients need power, and most moderately powered amps (i.e., 200-350 watts at 8ohms), including the Shuttle 6.0, tend to strain a bit and hit their limiting when really pushed hard at 8ohms. Both amps' limiting is 'pleasant' (i.e., the amps just sound compressed and stop getting louder). If you don't slap, and find your Eden WT400 fine at 8ohms, the Shuttle 6.0 or 6 Max (that's a really nice spec) or the LMII/III (the just released LMIII has a dual band safetly limiter to open up the performance at 8ohms... but more on the treble side than bass side) should be fine with that cab, which is pretty high SPL. IMO and IME!

Best advice is to try the amp in your typical setting. If you buy it from a dealer with a good return policy, you can't lose. You might also try the ShuttleMax 6.0 amp into your 4 ohm set-up to see how that works. You might find that it works well enough that you now have 3 options for gigging.

I've A/B'd the Shuttle Max 6.0 pushing my GB Neox 112t (8 ohms) and my Neox 212t cab (4 ohms). There is not as much difference as you might think (just a couple of db) for the extra 225 watts into the 4 ohm load.

Rather than concentrating on whether or not the Shuttle MAX will push the 8 ohm load with headroom, I'd be more concerned with the relative efficiency of the cab itself. That could make more difference than the impedance in terms of volume.

So yes, the best bet is to try the combination to see if it gives you what you want. If that's not possible, at least you know the performance difference for the Shuttle Max powering 8ohm and 4 ohm Neox cabs is very slight. I didn't think I was hitting the wall at all at 8 ohms.
