Sidewinders, Multi-coils and other hard to find pickups

Ovation Magnum neck pickup is similar to a multicoil, but only one coil per string. It allows it to sit at the neck and not be muddy like mudbuckers were. Great design, great tone.
There has been some neat bass pickups made through the years.
The problem with trying to dupe most of them, is you can't. lol

I dunno BT, you get that Ovation Magnum going and I'd order one.
The Multi-Coils is going to keep me busy for a while, figuring out how I want to build those.
That will be enough project for now, along with the other pickups I make.
If I take on another project, it will be putting one of my Sidewinders in the shallow chrome T-bird cover.
I think I know how to do that now?

Anyone know what those screw pieces are? They look a little like variable resistors
Volume for each pole piece on the neck pickup. You max each of them out and then find the quietest string and lower the rest to match it.
There are 3 ways to wire the 8 bobbin multi-coil wal style pickup.
All 8 in series (8x2.5=20K).
One row each in series, tie the two rows together in parallel (4x2.5=10/2=5K).
2 coils in series for each string, then tie the 4 pairs in parallel(2x2.5=5/8=.625k)
I wonder how each wiring scheme will sound?

I guess rotary switching would be a hard thing to pull off?
I don't do this stuff so I'm really not sure if/how it would work or not.

I've wired my multicoils in four series then rows in series and pairs in series then pairs in parallel. First one has a bit stronger and darker output but not much.
I got the magnets today for the MC's.
I built 8 bobbins and wound one.
Hopefully I posted 3 pics to get an idea what they will look like?
I will make the bottom bobbin plate tomorrow, and wind some more bobbins.
One bobbin measures 2.5k ohms DCR on the nose.

Sub'd. Ive been winding pickups recently and have been wanting to try sidewinders and multicoils next. I'd love to start a project and contribute to this thread. Great info here. Both those multi coils look good, I'd be interesting in a sound clip of the finished product, if that's possible. Did you guys (Big T and Iweildthespade) both wind to 10,000 winds?
Mine are wound to 10,000 turns per coil.
I'm still in progress on the first pickup.
I'm thinking about 15% reduction in turns for the Neck pickup.
Still looking for a LH bass for testing to take my New Router to.
Thought I found another Ibanez SR300L, but couldn't deal with the GC in NJ.
My first set will probably go to Ritch in Mich. Maybe he can give us a test clip!

I didn't read the whole thread so they may have been mentioned, but this guy makes some interesting pickups : Sentell Pickups electric guitar pickups
They have various weird multi-coil designs for guitars, as well as a few for bass. They also sometimes have interesting one-off pickups on their Ebay store.
