Players changing brands, huh? You mean like Doug Wimbish having sig models by Ibanez and Spector? Or Chuck Rainey having sig models by Warrior and Smith? Marcus having sig models by Sadowsky and Fender? Mark King having sig models by JayDee, Alembic, and GP Basses? Or Geddy Lee having sig models by Wal and Fender? Or Rocco having sig models by Conklin and Fender?
Also, how about players that have sig models, but play another brand? Chris Squire has a Ric sig, but he plays Warwick, Lakland and Carvin. Doug Wimbish has the Ibanez, but he plays his Spector 5. Duck Dunn and Rocco both have Fender sigs, but they play Laklands and Conklin respectively.

What if Woodchuck and Wishnevski collaborated on a new bass...an Ultimate P-Bass. They could call it the UP.....and the Woodchuck Signature Model could be called the UP-Chuck. I can see the text on the full page Bass Player ad now....

"How much wood would Woodchuck Up-Chuck if he had to play his Wishnevski?"

Why would he want a bad bass? The man has lot and lots of money. Why would he sign a signature contract with Ibanez for a bad bass? I don't get it. I don't like Fieldy much, but I don't dislike him either. I'm just sure he isn't stupid. I would seriously consider a soundgear as a live bass. They play very well.

One bass that never seems to get brought up in these threads is the Vic Wooton Monarch.

Every one of these that I've played was an incredibly phenominal bass. No I don't play like Victor, but oh how I wish that I could.:)

I will have one of these, one of these days.

The Vic Monarch probably gets ignored because it's not something that you would find in many shops. I've played Foderas at Bass NW while on vacation and briefly played the Vic bass (unplugged) at a show this fall.

My 5 and 7 string fanatic friends weren't too impressed and I think that it's really, really expensive but it felt really nice. I really dig Vic's music and was a bit intimidated picking the bass up. I realize that it's the magician not the wand and know that Vic would sound and play like Vic on a Squier but I was a bit in awe even though it wasn't "his" Monarch.

I forgot to mention that I've played a Geddy, a Steve Harris, a Jaco relic and a Sheehan Attitude and found them all to be pretty special.

I have a Modulus Flea 5, and although Flea has been a big influence on my playing in younger years, it had zero to do with buying this bass. I personally think asthetically, this is an ugly mother. It would look OK if it didn't have the big flake paint job I think. Mine has the lane poor pickup, and I honestly think it rays better than the ray 5's have have owned.....VERY bright bass, which is something I like. It's the sound I hear in my head when I think bass, and it is also one of the best playing basses I have ever owned....light as a feather too! Being a flea sig. isn't a positive or a neg in my mind, it's just the name of the bass.

Mark King also endorsed GB Basses for a little while, before switching to Status (the Status Mark King basses are very nice, by the way). So that's Jaydee, Alembic, Fender, Status, GB, and as for the amps he's endorsed, there's Trace, Eden, Ashdown, EBS... the list goes on!

I think the biggest "endorsement whore" I've ever seen is probably TM Stevens - he's been through Warwicks, Spectors, Peavey, Cort and probably plenty of others... he just seems to be on everyone's adverts!

They are great basses, no doubt. Every time I play one of the ones at either Manny's or Sam Ash (both in Hollywood), I remember why Fodera's are so great. I will be getting a Fodera. It won't be a VW model, though.

Just can't get into the whole signature thing. I could just get a Monarch with a P/J setup and be done with it. No inlay but I'm not really concerned about that.

So the inlay is really the only difference between a Wooton Classic and Monarch Deluxe? I was just wondering.

I'm not really into the idea of having some other player's name on MY bass. Maybe if he was my hero or something it would be different.

But, I had to vote "yes" because I have two Carvin Bunny Brunel signature models. I have a four-string BB70WP and a five-string BB75P. I didn't get them because of Bunny's name on the headstock. I got them because I like the body style. The BB bodies have better balance than the LB bodies. If it weren't for the sig basses, I might not even know who Bunny Brunel is.
