Bought a Roscoe beck last year and had never heard of him, that sound of the bass made me by it on site. My Marcus Miller has excellent look's and sound, and sounds better after the switch modifcation. And my sting feels and sounds great, I could do without the inlay, but you do forget about it.

Well, I recently got a Bill Dickens signature model, but when I purchased it, I certainly had no belief that I would ever sound like him when I played it. I've found a lot of signature models fill in the gap between the lower and higher end instruments companies offer.

Say you're an Ibanez fan and you want a step up from the eight bazillion low-cost models they have, but you don't have the dough for one of their better models, the Fieldy model might be for you (disclaimer: this post does not promote nor discredit Fieldy in any fashion; theere's already too many posts like that). That's why I got my bass; it's better than the GT-7 but doesn't start at $3000 like the handmade Conklins. It's just a matter of preference.

I've got a Jaco fretted Jazz. It's the best built of the newer Jazz basses. Light-weight, playable and toneful. Much better than the run of the mill MIA, MIM and any of the RI series.

i bought a geddy lee j-bass. i have a major obsession w/ rush. I'm only 13,and I'm still trying 2 pay the bass off. I luv it.

Ditto! I liked the shape, I had a Spector already and liked them and I wanted the Holoflash Black but couldn't afford the US one (I doubt if I had the money I'd have bought a US Spector and got the Holoflash option)

I also have a hankering for a Steve Harris P bass! I like the colour, and would like to have a gigging P - I wouldn't gig the one I've got for sentimental reasons! And I couldn't use Flats like hes does on a P - tried it (with Rotos), hated it, 2 weeks later a set of Roto Swing 66s were back on it!

I'd buy a sig model only if I could not get what I wanted in their regular line up. Lately I’ve been gassing for Marcus Miller jazz. Not because I want to play like him, but because you just cant get a fender like that without going through the custom shop

In my expeirence their are two diffrent sig models

1. Unique bass with a single players specs and features and maybe diffrent construction

2. Just a stock bass in the color of the players choice and finger board with his name on the headstock.

I Have 2 sig models Epiphone Jack Casady bass which is an improved version of the original Les Paul Bass this has jacks name instead of les paul because it is now known as the Jack Casady bass.
my second is in shipping right now Schecter Model T Robert DeLeo model this dosent have his name i allways liked the shape of this bass with it's vintage vibe and the P J config works for me . But i agree some times their are exceptional sig basses and other times you are just buying stock with a name on it.

Since I own a Peavey Palaedium the answer to the question has to be yes.

Personally I don't care if it's a "signature" bass or not, as long as it plays and sounds to my liking.

The Mark Hoppus not only is in no way custom, but it sounds very flat to my ear. The choice of colours is limited to the most uninteresting pastels, and really ruins just how great the jazz looks.

Totally agree, Jerry. I've got both Jaco Artist basses, fretted and fretless. Exceptional instruments.

True story: This guy returned his Marcus Miller sig, because after listening to "Panther", and trying to play it afterwards, he didn't sound like Marcus. When they told him that Marcus' sound came from the man, and not the bass, he said, "Then what's the point of this bass?!" They let him return it. They decided that reasoning with him was futlie.

I'm not a Fieldy fan, but I tried his sig bass as a gag and was really surprised. Now if ibanez would throw some Barts in that thing like the ones in a similar model they produce, you'd have a real contender.

LOVE the neck on the Geddy Lee sig. That's another bass that could be smokin' with some upgrades.

Worst sig bass ever? Can anyone say "Gene Simmons Axe"? ( And I'm, like, a huge Kiss fan. How do you play that thing on your lap without lopping off your leg?)

Can't say I was too impressed by the Steve Harris P-bass. I love P-basses, but that one just didn't stand out as different or special.

I can definately say I'd consider a signature instrument now. I played a Geddy Lee yesterday, and that was a really nice jazz, especially for the price. I'd like to try a Roscoe Beck sometime, too.
