If they were Rotosound, the silk at the headstock would line up more evenly across.

i always wondered why the silks didnt line up

Hi guys, for you these strings looks like thomastik flat? It seems they have red silk and brass ball.

The ones I can think of that come closest to them is the Ernie Ball Stainless Steel (NOT Cobalt) Flats. But the blue silk on them is usually darker than the one in the photos.

Actually some of the Ernie Ball 'Group" flats have a medium blue/pale blue silk. The Group II 50-105 is one.

Yes, I have since learned the shade of blue varies depending on which specific set we're talking about.

hi everyone, I recently bought this 1986 Fender Precision; I'm trying to figure out what kind of strings are these; the seller doesn't remember as he had the bass parked in a closet for a long time; they look like Rotosound , the tip has red silk but there's no silk on the ball end side;

Looking at the ball ends, they're definitely Rotosound.

great, but I still can't figure out what "series" they are , 55, 66, 77, 88 etc I have no idea, I've used D'Addario strings on bass and guitar since forever lol !

Well don’t know how old those strings are but they don’t look like flats so not 77. They aren’t tape wounds so not 88.

Unless I'm just missing something, they also look to me like the current version of Swing Bass 66. Not really sure when they most recently changed any such attributes; as long as I have used them, they looked like this.

(Stainless steel; the nickel Swing Bass 66 have blue silks.)

It’s been awhile since I used them but for some reason I remember silk on the ball ends to, could be wrong

Are you saying it's the newer version that no longer has silk at the ball end? That would make more sense as that's the direction GHS has been going; a lot of their models USED TO have silk at both ends but not any more.

The Rotosound 66 strings currently do not have silk at the ball end. I believe that they used to have silk at the ball end, but I do not know for sure, or when they might have stopped.

Not to derail the thread... but I never liked silks... always hated seeing basses with the silks frayed and torn... they often break ground with the tuning pegs... always wondered their function.

Don't have pictures, but looking to identify a set of round wounds; black silk on peg-end, no silk on ball end, hex core, brass balls.

Edit to add: they have a lot of high end zing (not necessarily my favorite thing), and very aggressive pick attack, though fingerstyle it mellows out some.

Sound like they could possibly be the GHS Pressurewounds, except the part about "a lot of high end zing".

Pics would help.

Also a measurement of the strings from the ball end to where the silk starts at the other end.
