I put a mic on them and they read 45 to 100????

Any ideas.

1) You may be measuring incorrectly

2) It's not unheard of for strings to be a slightly different gauge than stated on packaging.

If the silks are orange, you have Labella 760FX strings. If red, Labella 760FS 45-105
(Correction: red silk = 760FL 43-104; black = 45-105)

LaBella Flats have different color silks...

760FX (Extra Light .039 .056 .077 .096) = Almost Red Orange Silk
760FL (Light .043 .060 .082 .104) = Red Silk
760FS (Standard .045 .065 .085 .105) = Black Silk
760FM (Medium .049 .069 .089 .109) = Blue Silk

0760M (Jamersons) = Blue Silk

that's their sound! they are not supposed to be bright strings. I usually keep them on for at least an entire year of intense use, and they still sound good, with the right sustain and the "roundwound bite" that you can recall when needed, slamming them on the frets.
to me, they sound the best with low action, to make it easy to hit the frets and make them bark. a softer touch keeps them mellow and full.

Yes I understand all that, but my mic costs almost as much as a new bass today and the strings do not measure that small. I might be at the wrong place, so I will get a set of the FX'S and compare.

I know the FS's that is what I have on my other bass with black silk.

Never used DR Sunbeams, eh?

I used them. They feel nice to as do the nickel lo riders. I favor the nick lo riders over Sunbeams, they are louder.

Yes I understand all that, but my mic costs almost as much as a new bass today and the strings do not measure that small. I might be at the wrong place, so I will get a set of the FX'S and compare.

I know the FS's that is what I have on my other bass with black silk.

Based on the pic provided, I'm quite certain you have Labella 760FX flats. Nice srings!

these are my favorite roundwounds but I have no clue what they are - no silk, brass ball ends, great lows and lo mids, muted highs.

considering where is the tapered part on the headstock, I'm pretty sure that they are Ernie Ball.

I was thinking the same thing as well.

For one thing DR strings do not have silk at either end. And based on where the tapered part starts on yours, they appear to be 38" in winding length, which is how DRs are.

they are similar, but I've always noticed that DR are more "precise" in the bridge part, and mine have never had the tapering on the D string, at least with 45-105, 40-100 and 40-95 sets.

Well...I just checked my old sets of the Sunbeams (45-105) and the Nickel Lo-Riders (40-100) and in both cases the D string IS tapered exactly where don21480's photo shows.

Sadowsky strings have grey silk (at least the flats do)

My Sadowsky Nickels (rounds) have grey silk as well

I just checked my old sets

curious! mine are not tapered in that way, the D and G have the same gauge. the Ernie Ball 40-95 set I have has that tapering on the D.

I guess we won't be able to be sure in any way

These are 100-80-60-40
I don't think any Ernie Balls come in those sizes

Are you folks aware of any D'Addario strings with red wrappings? Sorry if this was covered previously and I missed it. I skimmed through the thread and did not see this mentioned.
