Silverburst Thunderbird

I have been scouring the internet and nobody seems to have them. I missed one on ebay a few days ago. I was assuming because they were "limited edition" that maybe they were all gone. Maybe they just haven't got into circulation yet. Can somebody enlighten me?

In the "It's a small bass world" department... I'm the guy that had the Silverbusrt T-bird on ebay. I still have it. The mahogany body definitely gives it a better sound (in my opinion).

:D I had yours on my watch list too but the one I missed had a Buy it now for $219 and $20 shipping. I don't think it had a case though. I went to eat on Thanksgiving day and when I got done with dinner it was gone. :crying: Remind me how much you want for yours. I'm interested.

Out of curiosity, how do they sound? Are they more like the Gibsons or are they something else?

I'm assuming the pickups on the Silverburst are also different than the normal T-Bird, right?

They are the same. The sound like Epiphone Thunderbird that have mahogany bodies. Blackbird and Goth were the previous ones.

I mean... yeah they DO sound like a Gibson in the "It's more Gibson T Bird sounding than a Fender P Bass" kind of way.. but its not like they magically have the awesome Gibson pups, 9 ply neck, neck through, neck taper and shape, as-low action, etc.

+1. I totally agree. Only a GIBSON T-bird sounds like that, Too many differences. I do think the mahogany body sounds different from the alder T-birds (I've had the chance to A/B them). Don't know if the pickups come into play in this. Tone is subjective; It's all in what your ears like.

I just saw the one that went for $219. Wow! I was asking $349 for mine (without the gibson case). That was a great price! It must have gone immediately; I have been watching 'Birds on ebay pretty constantly and never saw that one.

I sent you a PM and an email. I'm eager to hear back from you. If we can get a deal done I need to take care of some financial stuff while I am off today.

I was told that the silverburst was a special run for Musicians Friend. Do you have any idea why some had black hardware and some chrome? Was the chrome hardware a different run and if so who was it for and which one is more "limited" in numbers?

Gunner, mine was picked up used at MF. I got it immediately within an hour of seeing it because I thought it would not last. I looked for two months after seeing one on the Gibson website. I was kinda peeved because I think it's been up there forever...what's the deal?

IMHO the chrome silverburst does not sound like my 2007 gibson. With Roto 66's the silverburst sounds more like my 1994 MIJ Jazz bass. Nice clarity, piano type sound. The output is not a hot or as deep/dark as the 2007 gibby. I moved the strap button to the neck heel and it has zero dive now.
I paid a measley $240 for the silverburst and it may be the best deal I ever made for a bass.
Honestly my old standard epi t-bird is a bit "muddy" on the low end. It is my least favorite of ten basses. The fit and finish of this older Korean made bass is beautiful and I am thinking of changing out the pickups..maybe with a music man pup at the bridge. I bet that's all it needs.
Being a t-bird freak, I also have an epi-goth bass ($170 used from GC). It sounds great, sorta more on the deeper darker tone (like the gibsons) than my other epi's. You can slap it, pick it, or pluck it, etc. the neck is rock solid.

A friend on another forum got one these, he took it apart and discoverd that it actually has guitar pick ups! IIRC he replaced them with some N.O.S. Gibson Les Paul bass pick ups that fit the same rout.
