SIMPLE bass lines that make the song...

Yes, the bassline is quite simple, even simpler than Richie Blackmore's GUITAR riff than so many people play as the bassline.
LOL, I'm reminded of a classic Woody Allen quote.
"I took a speed reading course and read 'War and Peace' in twenty minutes. It involves Russia."
*audiogasm*Bob Segar. can't get any simpler than that, yet the tune would fail without the stripped to the essence bass part. Kind of like Springsteen.
But I think the truth can be found in a blues shuffle. Being able to play a medium tempo laid back in the pocket 12 bar shuffle is the mark of a player who knows how to groove.

Good catch. There's a future in editing for you. Not that it's anything to boast of but the 70's were my "formidable" years. Ah yes, many good times....most of which I actually remember

Another song that I feel would be lost without its super simple but totally awesome bassline is "Do Something" by Macy Gray.
Oh, and Bang and Blame by R.E.M. I don't know if Chick Magnet by MxPx, Call 'n Return by Hellogoodbye, A Horse with No Name by America, or Milktoast by Helmet have been mentioned yet.
