SIMPLE bass lines that make the song...

gee - no one has mentioned GODZILLA by Blue Oyster Cult? The riff in the bridge can be challenging, yes, but the other two main bass lines are pretty simple and easy to learn. After I've had a hard day at the hotel, I love to come home and practice that song, while imagining the big G stomping on cars belonging to the guests who have given me the biggest headaches that day. Boom! bum bum bum Boom! Yeah!

Trespass - One of These Days.

Some old 80's Brit Metal band I'd never even heard of til I got this audition comin' up Tues.It really is a butt-simple line, but it really does drive the song.

Flight of Icarus by Iron Maiden seems to meet the criteria too. It's pretty much all about right hand technique, timing, and riding that F note for the most part.... There's nothing more complicated to it than a few 5ths, octave climbs, and slides, but it really does drive that song too. (It's funny how when you ride that F so long, it makes that part where it dips down to the open E seem so much deeper/lower.)

Message in a Bottle by The Police is another fine example of a fairly simplistic line, yet it's the entire backbone of the song.

Did anyone mention....

"Running With The Devil" - VH.

I use this as joke onstage. I tell the crowd I'm going to play Van Halen on my bass. They always assume I'm about to break into Eruption. I stretch my fingers, go through the motions of really concentrating, then ready.... set...

Bamp Bamp Bamp Bamp Bamp Bamp Bamp Blink

Get's em every time!

How about "Just Like Heaven". The Cure

"Radio Free Europe" REM. Such a great bass line. Easy... and a complete blast to play!

PS. Good call on "Maneater"

Hiya,

I scanned the thread but didn't see these:

Pink Floyd - Sheep, Pigs

The Who - Who are you?

Bad Co. - Burnin' Sky

Allen Parsons Project - Wouldn't want to be like you

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp

Bush - Comedown

Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away

Planet P Project - Why me?

Frankie goes to Hollywood - Relax

Bow Wow Wow - I want candy

Tom

I can only think of 3 really simple ones:

Walking On The Moon - The Police
Peaches - Stranglers
Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood

You could play these note for note on your first day of picking up a bass I would imagine.
