Paul Wolfe at how-to-play-bass.com came up with a couple of songlists that you might find useful. He calls the concept "How to Play Bass in 50 Songs!" (click for the article explaining his idea, well worth reading), and they're basically top-50 lists of exactly what you're looking for: easy-to-play, fun, popular songs to learn bass on, so that students can begin practicing on stuff they know and like right away.

As an added bonus, he organized the songs on a kind of "from easier to harder" order, so there's a natural progression and learning one song helps prepare the student to learn the next, more complex one.
