I think what Glover plays is what really makes the tune move.

It's so dead simple and to me it really does make the song.

its an awesome song for sure but i think the guitar part makes the song more than the bassline although it is a cool catchy simple bassline..

Kept seeing the name come up in this thread, but hadn't heard the song in years, and couldn't remember the bassline....
....then I was sitting in my car yesterday, listening to the radio, and heard this dead simple bassline....then the other instruments came in....and I said to myself "Aha! Swingtown!!"...
I listened to the whole song, and as the last notes faded out, a bus crosses in front of me with a big "Swingtown" poster plastered on the side....perfect!
I couldn't have planned it better.
