Simplest Song You Just Can't Play?

For the longest time I had problems with the Authority Song. Very repetitive. I would be going along fine as long as I didn't think about it. Then I would think "what is the next note" and completely screw up.

Not sure if I have finally learned the song.... or if I no longer think :eek:

It's very easy for me to stumble on a repetitive line like Billie Jean, etc. Doesn't happen often, thankfully, but sometimes I find my mind wandering, then by the time I catch myself, I know it's going to happen. Kind of like when you're running and you start to stumble and you know you're going down, lol.

I always considered country bass lines to be very boring and simple. The first time I had to play one on an original song my band leader wrote, I struggled mightily. Hitting the notes was not the problem, the feel was the problem. How long to hold the notes, the right tone, etc... I had not listened to this genre before and had spent no time working on it. I had always assumed it was easy. It was MUCH more challenging than I had ever thought. It gave me a new appreciation and opened my eyes in regards to capturing the feel of a genre.

+1 that's my second choice I start to wander also then the chorus hits and I'm stumbling.

The Doors "Roadhouse Blues". Simple as h. e. double toothpicks, but I struggle all the time with it. Been playing it (or at least trying not to %^&* it up) for years. Oddly enough, there are quite a few songs we play that would be considered fairly complex, and I play them better than I should be able to, given my mediocre talent.

This might count.
Only happened once, but I totally blanked during the solo section of 'I Want You to Want Me'.
Kept playing the E two bars too long and just couldn't fathom how to recover until we got back to the chorus.
Playing tired = playing stupid.

Man there is something about Willie Nelson tunes (especially his live ones), the timing never feels right to me and trips me constantly. He was once described to me as "the only man in country who can't find the downbeat", but whatever he does with his timing works for him anyway.

Not really that simple, but I feel like I should be able to play "Constipated Duck" by Jeff Beck. I just always lose it.

I different challenge is playing in my friends afro-beat bands. Play the same bassline over and over again for 30-40 min, staying in time while a bunch of percussionists try to get weird, and horns and guitars playing jazz type solos. A drill in concentration.

:p I agree 100%! Willie has a really weird way of using his playing and voice to mess up timing .His live stuff is sometimes horrible and his old Martin sounds like a kids $20.00 guitar but he is a master and makes it sound so good.
