Singer Has Covid

Not open for further replies.
The singer for the original project I'm involved with has covid, but isn't telling anyone. I only found out through his wife. The others in the group don't know he's got it. I'm facing a moral conundrum. It's not my place to disclose other people's health information, but at the same time I feel they have a right to know so they can decide for themselves on if they want to show up for rehearsal tomorrow night or not. One is not vaccinated, the other is immune compromised. Even though I'm fully vax'd, will not be going until he sheds the virus.

—I didn’t read all of the posts. As a health care worker that actually treats Covid patients….I can tell you that the disease is not a joke. And I personally have had it, as have members of my family. In fact, I lost a distant relative, and another relative has permanent damage from it. Though many people are lucky enough to have mild to no symptoms…you can’t predict who that will be.
I treated a husband and wife that both got it from a funeral. One spouse had pre-existing conditions. That was not the one that died from Covid, even though in theory, it should have been the other one.
The only question here should be, “what is the best way to let my band mates know.”

Are you kidding me? I would be furious if I was another bandmate and you didn’t tell me. And what the ? He still wants to have rehearsal?

Yeah, definitely tell! The guitar player/singer in my band got it and we stopped getting together until he was all good, shook out to be almost a month later due to schedules. The drummer has a weakened immune system due to having a couple of bouts with cancer and 100% weren’t going to expose him to something like that

This is highly irresponsible. Almost maliciously stupid, really. Tell him straight that you know and, unless he at least cancels, you're telling the rest of the band. I understand your conundrum but people can be put in danger here.
He shouldn’t even be leaving the house much less be around others. Your singer is a bad person

A moral conundrum involves a problem that calls out to your conscience. How is this a moral conundrum? If your question is, "is it morally wrong of me to tell people they might be exposed to a killer?" (and I say this without emotion or judgement) then you're an idiot. If you're looking for me to tell you, "the show must go on," sorry. Can't do it. You know what's right, and you're looking to the forum to talk you out of it. Don't be a pussy. This could be life and death, and you're best squeak is "I have a moral conundrum." Are you a moron? Do you play one on television?

Do what you're gonna do.

He doesn’t need to be symptomatic to spread it. Cancel the rehearsal, ask him to get tested to be safe. If he declines to test, schedule the next rehearsal in two weeks.

Exactly this. My cover band has been in this situation numerous times over the last few months. Whenever there was any doubt (i.e. feeling under the weather or exposition to a COVID-positive coworker/family member or eclosion at kid's school) rehearsal was canceled until test results were in. Lucky for us none of us ever got it, but it's not something you mess around with. As of last Sunday, all 5 of us are fully vaxxed. It feels nice to work with responsible adults.

For those who think that the wife may be at fault... you may be right. but it's beside the point.
If you're right (and that's a BIG IF), the truth will come out.
The 'friend/singer' couldn't blame you for believing that his own wife tells the truth.

I mean… that’s exactly what it does though… This isn’t a political topic, or at least shouldn’t be.

Vaccination significantly reduces chances of transmission, but it does not fully stop it.

Not remotely a political topic, it’s just a virus. And as it’s the single most universal factor affecting bass players today (besides discovering which bass is best for metal, of course), I can’t imagine being forbidden to talk about how it impacts gig life, as long as everybody’s levelheaded about it.

I think that would've been a better way to pose this thread. How to deal with the fallout? He's a lifelong friend of over 30 years, so I'm sure he's going to feel betrayed, and get extremely angry.

i’ve unfortunately lost more than a couple friends over the last 18 months. Thankfully it wasn’t a big loss once I realized that they literally cared only about themselves.
