Singer Has Covid

As irresponsible as the LS is being, it's true that it's really not your place to disclose others' health issues without permission. But I would:
1. Tell LS that you know and that he needs to be responsible about things.
2. Tell the band that you're sitting out for the foreseeable future. Advise the others to do the same. Tell them to ask LS why.

To do nothing is compliance.

I think this is the most responsible answer...

Actually no. Hippa and health care privacy does not apply to bandmates.

HIPPA only applies to covered entities:

“Covered Entities. Covered entities are defined in the HIPAA rules as (1) health plans, (2) health care clearinghouses, and (3) health care providers who electronically transmit any health information in connection with transactions for which HHS has adopted standards.”

Yeah, I know this, but thanks. My point was the the OP is challenged because the dude is a long time friend. To keep his friendship in tact and protect himself and his other bandmates, he sits out and advises the other to do the same and ASK the singer WHY.

The singer for the original project I'm involved with has covid, but isn't telling anyone. I only found out through his wife. The others in the group don't know he's got it. I'm facing a moral conundrum. It's not my place to disclose other people's health information, but at the same time I feel they have a right to know so they can decide for themselves on if they want to show up for rehearsal tomorrow night or not. One is not vaccinated, the other is immune compromised. Even though I'm fully vax'd, will not be going until he sheds the virus.
It’s not about him. He already has the virus so now it’s his responsibility to recover without spreading it. It’s about the people he will endanger if he continues to mingle with others.

You might want to update your original post to include that information. A lot of people aren't going to read all 10 (and counting) pages of this before replying on a topic that they feel so strongly about.

I was looking for an edit post feature earlier but didn't see one.

In post 88 the OP says he called the singer who said that was his wife's diagnosis is of his symptoms . He has no idea if he actually has it or not . SO - he needs to get tested at the minimum and isolated until those results come in . However the OP states that the singer will postpone practice if he's feeling symptomatic . ? This makes little sense as he could well be very mildly ill - think he's ok enough and still infect everyone else . The original post is misleading and kinda unfortunate as many here have commented - assuming the original statement was fact not speculation . Sorry I just saw red rhino's similar statement to mine .... Kelly

Didn't mean to confuse anyone. His wife told me he had it, he never told me or the others. Talked to him later on the phone, he told me he needs to get tested for it because she thinks he might have it based on similar symptoms she had. If he's showing so much as a single symptom of covid, too includ a headache or runny nose, rehearsals are a no go until after he gets tested. If he is symptom free, then we shall rehearse. Since I'm the vaccinated one, I'll probably mask up and go pay him a visit tomorrow to see with my eyes.

Regardless of the singer's rationale for not telling band mates that's he's got Covid, he is unaware (braindead?) of how selfish his focus is.

Here's hoping that he will tell all the band members (along with non-band members) -- along with a heartfelt apology of not telling them sooner.

Otherwise, the OP needs to be the responsible adult in the room and be the bearer of truth...come what may.

Edit: Yeah -- GET TESTED FIRST!

Covid sucks!! I would have told everyone yesterday and canceled as a precaution...my singer of 30yrs would get over it. Wouldn't be the first time I upset him. I'd also call him daily to see if he is doing ok.

Let me get this straight… you are in a band where 2 people are unvaccinated, and a 3rd person is immuno-compromised? You do realize that despite being vaccinated, you can still unknowingly catch/carry the virus yourself and potentially infect others, right? When did you see these people last? Have you yourself been tested after learning this news? Are you in quarantine?

I don't get people. Our original project just broke off again, but the drummer was adamant that covid didn't exist. He refused to get vax'd. He even went as far as calling us fools for believing it was real and claims it never happened anywhere else in the world. It's all made up by our government and news.
C'mon, man! This is a medical issue, not political

OMG…please do some research on “asymptomatic transmission.” While you are at it, please research what to do if you or someone you’ve had contact with is showing symptoms. I’m pretty sure it’s NOT “Since we’re not sure…let’s pile into a room together and breathe in each others faces for a few hours, and if Sammy drops dead then I guess maybe he had the ‘rona.”

I agree that to do nothing is compliance. But as to that first statement, all societies broadly agree that medical privacy ends at one’s potential to spread infectious disease, full stop. Probably hundreds of thousands of pages devoted to this in maritime law, immigration law etc.

A disease which affects only you - or even through intimate contact only: private medical info. A disease which you can spread by just being near others: never private medical info.

Late to the party and haven't read all eight pages.

Hopefully, you opted to let everyone know. Unvaxxed AND immunocompromised in the band?!?!

You actually considered telling those folks a moral conundrum?

C'mon, man. Get real.

There's no moral conundrum here, you're not restricted by HIPPA. They should know, and I'd never work with someone like that again, who is so clearly casual about putting others in jeopardy.
