Singer Has Covid

Not open for further replies.
The singer for the original project I'm involved with has covid, but isn't telling anyone. I only found out through his wife. The others in the group don't know he's got it. I'm facing a moral conundrum. It's not my place to disclose other people's health information, but at the same time I feel they have a right to know so they can decide for themselves on if they want to show up for rehearsal tomorrow night or not. One is not vaccinated, the other is immune compromised. Even though I'm fully vax'd, will not be going until he sheds the virus.

Talk to the band mate and tell him in no uncertain terms he needs to tell the other bandmates about his health situation. Shutting things down for a few weeks giving him time to recover is not the end of the world.

BTW, just because you are vaccinated, it doesn’t mean you are immune and will not get sick, it’s just means the likelihood of you dying is greatly reduced. I lost a brother from it right before Christmas, and my BL lost his brother the day before. His wife has long COVID-19 that has had her incapacitated since January. This is nothing to mess with.

You have a moral responsibility to the other members in the band to inform them of the situation.

I'd be pissed as hell and would quit right than and there if someone showed up that had tested positive for Covid.

That's fair if you ask me. Now we get to watch 10 pages of posts from people who didn't read past the original post .

I thought the same thing on both of your points. I'm going to ask the mods to close the thread to try and prevent that.

OP.. kudos to doing communication by phone. Text messages can easily be misconstrued and lead to further issues. Been there, regretted that, lol.

Thanks. The only thing I text him was letting him know I knew, and that we needed to talk. After 30 years of friendship, it's just not something I'd be willing to handle in font. Tone of voice, and hearing the emotion involved is very important in situations like this. That and I'm old school. You don't talk serious heartfelt issues in a text.

We had a similar situation recently. Vocalists wife caught it at a gig we did. When he found out he called us and informed us what happened. We just held our breath at rehearsal when we walked past her through the house.
That's not how any of this works.

If you're all worried, you all wear a mask. Tada.
This is not good advice if it's meant seriously . A mask will help prevent some exposure but not necessarily all and if one band mate is compromised - that person is at much greater risk of severe illness than vaccinated folks are . Plus the one with Covid is the singer and most likely to project potential virus particles out by simply singing . My only question would be why anyone would not own up to being ill in the first place given the circumstances . Give him a head's up that because of your long friendship he needs to do the right thing and tell the rest of the band himself or you will reluctantly have to . There should be no stigma to catching Covid - no embarrassment or shame . But there should be a butt load of dishonor to not admitting it and continuing on like you don't have it and ending up putting your friends and band mates at risk . Tell him to be an adult .... If I have to tell them, I'm done with this project.
Absolutely! I wouldn't be able to trust anyone who would put other people's lives at risk like that. It's beyond selfish. I mean, if he's willing to do that, how could I trust him to make the right call on even mundane band-related issues? Even if everyone was fully vaccinated, they have a right to know and he has an obligation to tell them. Vaccine protection is very high, but it's not 100%.

And if I was a band member and you knew but didn't say anything, I'd never be able to trust you again either. It doesn't matter how you came to know. The bottom line is you know. You don't have a choice. (Well, you do have a choice, but only one of those choices is correct.)

Tell everyone and let the chips fall where they may.

Damn straight the others have a right to know. If you're worried about tanking the project, maybe worry more about the integrity of one of the people you've signed on with. (The fact that the singer won't cop to his illness makes my blood boil.)

Good luck, stay well.

I couldn’t have said this any better! This is 110% the way it is!
But now you know what will happen when @$#% really hits the fan.

He's a lifelong friend of over 30 years, so I'm sure he's going to feel betrayed, and get extremely angry.
Lifelong friends can have difficult and meaningful conversations without killing the friendship. It can be done without rancor or anger, even when you both disagree. Be kind, but be firm. He has to tell everyone.

I had a good talk with him on the phone a short while ago. As always got two different versions of the story.
You might want to update your original post to include that information. A lot of people aren't going to read all 10 (and counting) pages of this before replying on a topic that they feel so strongly about.

In post 88 the OP says he called the singer who said that was his wife's diagnosis is of his symptoms . He has no idea if he actually has it or not . SO - he needs to get tested at the minimum and isolated until those results come in . However the OP states that the singer will postpone practice if he's feeling symptomatic . ? This makes little sense as he could well be very mildly ill - think he's ok enough and still infect everyone else . The original post is misleading and kinda unfortunate as many here have commented - assuming the original statement was fact not speculation . Sorry I just saw red rhino's similar statement to mine .... Kelly

I agree. I'm not sifting through each page just to tell you to tell that tool to get tested and stay away from people until he knows for sure he is negative. I'm an ER nurse and have been blindsided several times by jabronis who fail to disclose, then when we see their chest x-ray and it looks like a Jackson Pollock painting finally mention, "Oh by the way... I have covid." You wanna see angry nurses - pull this stunt and you will. Your 'friend' is selfish, irresponsible, and especially if band members are older and have underlying medical conditions, potentially fatal. Tool...:bored:

Sounds like his wife ratted him out. She wants people to know. Take it from there.

I thought about this too only with a slant. Maybe she's REALLY pissed at him for something he did or didn't do. What a great way to totally screw someone over! Tell a select few friends he is infected and watch the defamation machine roar to life. I think a friend to friend talk is in order. If he IS infected then other advice of firing or telling others applies. If he denies it I still would let the others know of the 'rumor' you heard and let them make their own decision.

As irresponsible as the LS is being, it's true that it's really not your place to disclose others' health issues without permission. But I would:
1. Tell LS that you know and that he needs to be responsible about things.
2. Tell the band that you're sitting out for the foreseeable future. Advise the others to do the same. Tell them to ask LS why.

To do nothing is compliance.

I think this is the most responsible and answer...
