Singer is a Felon

Not defending criminal behavior..but.. There's ony 2 types of people.. the caught and the uncaught..NO ONE IS PERFECT.

You've never rolled through a Stop sign or exceeded a speed limit?? C'mon now..lets be honest, here.

I wonder if there is anyone here who has not stolen or damaged something, acted fraudulently, committed a violent act, or a drug offence that could not in theory lead to prison time.

Didn't David Crosby of C S & N, serve time for a number of years..He still records, tours.

Crosby went to jail for 9 months for possession charges in Texas in 1982. He had a high profile, and Texas...well Texas of the 1980s didn't really have much patience for long haired hippie rockers, so they threw the book at him.

During this time, he was in bad shape for years, and despite still working his playing and singing were really below the level you would expect them to be at for a good portion of the 80s.

Since the early 90s he has been, by all public accounts, sober outside of pot and has been substantially more functional.

TL;DR He was, briefly. When he was in that state he really wasn't the type of guy you wanted in your band.

TOPO..You defended....expressed my argument better than I .

But I also agree with you that infractions which aren't frowned on as much by society (e.g. traffic law violations) can be just as destructive. Hey, some of the very worst things people can do to each other aren't even crimes at all.

This isn't to argue with anyone with (or without) experience of meth users who are urging sensible caution in this situation.

TOPO..we're on the same page together if you read all of my banter in between others posts...

TBZ...Mrs Zon6 & I saw C S N in Atlanta ..mid 90's?? All 3 Sounded great..never missed a note or cue. Hope I sound that good at that age..wait..I AM NEARLY 60 NOW!!..lol.

We LOVE listening to Crosby's solo work, "If I could Only Remember My Name" on CD..delicious tunes and tasty bass work, too.

Hope no one ever runs a stop sign and t-bones you.

Hope no one ever runs too fast..out of control and hits you.

Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices..M.U.T.C.D. ... is on-line.. some interesting reading although technical.

It's really not that hard to discern between an accident and a deliberate criminal act. The courts have clearly made this distinction.

I just wanted to know if anyone had a situation like I am in now with a felon on parole. I am not worried about him hawking my gear as it is over at the Drummer's basement. Anytime he's around my gear I will be too.

I don't see anything going in I can't live with. He has to get written permission to play a gig while I have to get written permission from my employer to play any gig on a week night. Vacation or day off request. You see were all in one big prison with differing rules in differing wards :p

The BIG difference is that you can quit your job but he can't quit prison or parole.

Meth is an epidemic in this country and, without a doubt, the most humanly, destructive, illicit drug on the planet.

You are to be lauded for taking him in as a bandmate and giving him a chance but I would fear that one day he just won't be there anymore for a number of reasons.

Actually I happen to know that this is untrue as my wife is a substance abuse counselor and has seen people test positive from second hand. The equipment she uses gives actual numbers so they can tell if its second hand or first however they have to mark either pos or neg. There's no shades of grey when your on parole. Just an FYI.

The threshholds are set very high for a positive test. It would never hold up in court otherwise. Results showing up on a test and poping potitive are two different things. You'd have to sit in a car for an hour with Bob Marley to get positive results.

Just to clarify

Prison and Jail are two very different places

and

Parol and Probation are two very different things
Care to spell it out for us foreign types? Federal Prison vs County Jail as I gather from cop shows is a big difference in comfort level.

Is probation where you don't have curfew and reporting conditions but still liable to be recalled to prison/jail if you are found guilty of something relatively minor, say shoplifting?

It's an original band so were not in it for the money.

Hmm. Then the music/member combination would have to be really good. FWIW: If not for employment, I seriously doubt his parole officer is going to let him cross state lines with a band.

Anyway, please keep us updated - this might get as interesting as Breaking Bad was (lets hope not) but you never know. Good luck and I wish you best.
